## The Classic at a glance

**The Breeders' Cup Classic is run on Saturday 31 October, with the field still to be set.** Final entries close and the draw is held on Monday 26 October, so this page names the pre-entered horses and the storylines, not a confirmed line-up. It will be updated once the stalls are drawn.

The Classic is a Grade 1 over 1¼ miles on dirt for three-year-olds and older, worth $7m, and the last race of the meeting. The Breeders' Cup lists 11 horses pre-entered, from a record 255 pre-entries across the 14 races (222 individual horses, 79 of them from abroad). The race is due off at 6.16pm in Kentucky, which is 10.16pm in Britain.

## Forever Young goes for a second Classic

**Forever Young** won the 2025 Classic at Del Mar by a half-length from Sierra Leone, with Fierceness third and Journalism fourth. He was the first Japanese-trained winner of the race. Yoshito Yahagi trains him and Ryusei Sakai rides, and he had been third in the Classic the year before.

He earned his place this year through the Jockey Club Gold Cup, one of the "Win and You're In" qualifiers. A second Classic would put him alongside Tiznow, who won in 2000 and 2001 and is the only dual winner.

In mid-October he was the market favourite at around 5/2, according to USRacing.com, and led America's Best Racing's final power rankings with 25 first-place votes. Treat both as snapshots: American odds move with the pools until the off, and the draw can change a horse's chance as much as its form.

## Sovereignty and the American challenge

**Sovereignty**, trained by Bill Mott for Godolphin, is the reigning Horse of the Year and won this year's Whitney. He is reported among the pre-entries and was around 7/2 and second in the power rankings. He was scratched from the 2025 Classic with a fever, so this would be his first run in it.

The rest of the pre-entered group named by Racing Dudes is Knightsbridge, Magnitude, Golden Tempo, Further Ado and Napoleon Solo. Forged Steel and T O Password are also pre-entered but list the Dirt Mile as their first preference, so they may not run here.

A pre-entry is not a runner. Horses can be entered in two races and run in one, and the field is capped at 14 starters.

There is no European runner on this list. Only two European-trained horses have ever won the Classic, and our [trends and stats page](/racing-news/breeders-cup-trends-and-stats/) shows where Europe's record sits instead: on turf.

## Betting it from the UK

UK bookmakers price the Classic, but on-course betting in America runs through pools, so the odds on the track's board are a dividend that keeps moving until the off. Your bookmaker's price is its own.

- **Wait for the draw.** A price before Monday carries the risk of a non-runner and of a poor stall. [Ante-post betting explained](/betting/bet-types/ante-post-betting/) covers what happens to your stake.
- **Check the terms.** Each-way places and any Best Odds Guaranteed concession are set by each bookmaker, and many apply only to British and Irish racing. See our [each-way guide](/betting/bet-types/each-way/).
- **Our model does not cover it.** The AI Lab rates British and Irish racing only, so there are no model prices for the Classic. [Understanding odds](/ai-race-predictor/lab/understand-odds/) explains what a price means once the bookmaker's margin is taken out.

The race finishes at about 10.16pm UK time, late for many people, and a $7m final is an easy one to chase a bet on. Set a budget first. Compare firms through [the best free bet offers](/bookmakers/best-free-bet-offers/).
