## The Mile at a glance

**The Breeders' Cup Mile is run on Saturday 31 October at Keeneland, and Notable Speech, last year's winner, is the 7-5 morning-line favourite from post 8.** The draw was made on Monday 26 October. Five of the 14 runners are trained in Europe, more than in any Saturday race except the Turf.

The Mile is a Grade 1 over 1m on turf for three-year-olds and older, and has been on the card at every Breeders' Cup since the first in 1984. It is due off at 4.20pm in Kentucky, which is 8.20pm in Britain, and it is the first race in ITV4's Saturday programme.

## The draw for Europe's runners

Post positions are counted out from the inside rail. The morning line is the track's opening estimate of the odds, set at the draw and written the American way; the pool odds move away from it as money comes in, and a UK bookmaker's price is its own.

<div data-element="data-table">

| Post | Horse | Trainer | Jockey | Morning line |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | Lake Forest | William Haggas | Cieren Fallon | 6-1 |
| 7 | Qirat | Ralph Beckett | Colin Keane | 30-1 |
| 8 | Notable Speech | Charlie Appleby | William Buick | 7-5 |
| 12 | True Love | Aidan O'Brien | Wayne Lordan | 8-1 |
| 14 | Puerto Rico | Aidan O'Brien | Ryan Moore | 10-1 |

The table shows the European runners only; the other nine are on the Breeders' Cup's official entries. Blue Bolt, pre-entered here as well, runs in the Filly & Mare Turf instead, and Gstaad, Constitution River and Ten Bob Tony were pre-entered for the Mile but are not in the final field.

## Notable Speech goes for a second Mile

**Notable Speech** won the Mile in 2025 for Charlie Appleby, with William Buick riding, and the same team is back with him from post 8.

His summer in Britain started slowly. In our results files he was sixth of nine in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot on 16 June, sent off at 9/4. He then won the City of York Stakes over seven furlongs on 22 August, again at 9/4, with Lake Forest second. His last run before Keeneland was in the Woodbine Mile in Canada.

At 7-5 he is the shortest-priced European runner on the Saturday card. Treat that as a snapshot: American odds move with the pools until the off.

## The other four from Europe

**Lake Forest** has the best draw of the five, post 2, for William Haggas and Cieren Fallon. In our results files he won the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood at 10/11 in July, and ran in three Group 1s in Britain without winning one: fifth in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, seventh in the Sussex and second to Notable Speech at York. His last run was second in the Coolmore Turf Mile over this course on 3 October, so he has already raced at Keeneland.

**True Love**, for Aidan O'Brien and Wayne Lordan, comes here off a win in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp. Before that she was third in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot and sixth in the Matron at Leopardstown.

**Puerto Rico**, her stablemate, was third in that Foret and has Ryan Moore from the outside post, 14. His runs in Britain this summer were sixth in the St James's Palace Stakes, 11th in the Sussex and sixth in the City of York Stakes.

**Qirat**, for Ralph Beckett and Colin Keane, is the outsider of the five at 30-1. He won the Criterion Stakes at York in June and was second in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood in August, both Group races below the top level.

## Betting it from the UK

UK bookmakers price the Mile, but on-course betting in America runs through pools, so the odds on the track's board are a dividend that keeps moving until the off. Your bookmaker's price is its own.

- **The draw is done, the field is not final.** A horse can still be scratched before the race. [Ante-post betting explained](/betting/bet-types/ante-post-betting/) covers what happens to your stake.
- **Check the terms.** Each-way places and any Best Odds Guaranteed concession are set by each bookmaker, and many apply only to British and Irish racing. See our [each-way guide](/betting/bet-types/each-way/).
- **Our model does not cover it.** The AI Lab rates British and Irish racing only, so there are no model prices for the Mile. [Understanding odds](/ai-race-predictor/lab/understand-odds/) explains what a price means once the bookmaker's margin is taken out.

British and Irish runs, positions and starting prices are from our own results files (Sporting Life), 1 June to 26 October 2026. The Woodbine Mile, the Prix de la Foret and the Coolmore Turf Mile are outside those files; those notes are from the official Breeders' Cup horse profiles and Horse Racing Nation's last-start column. Notable Speech's 2025 win, trainer and jockey are from the [Breeders' Cup 2025 results](https://www.breederscup.com/races/bcwc/2025) and our race research file. A horse counts as European when its trainer is based in Britain, Ireland or France.
