## The meeting in one screen

**The Breeders' Cup runs over two evenings in Britain and finishes on Saturday 31 October 2026 with the Classic.** It is 14 Grade 1 races, seven on turf and seven on dirt, and every European winner at the six meetings from 2020 to 2025 came on the grass, the surface our horses race on at home.

The first section below holds good every year: which races suit European horses and how to read their form from here. The second is the 2026 team, with each horse's season at home from our own results database. Our model rates British and Irish racing only, so there are no prices here.

## How to read the Breeders' Cup from Britain

### Grass is where Europe wins

European stables have won the Turf, over 1m 4f, in most recent years, and every European winner of the Juvenile Turf in the last ten years came from Aidan O'Brien or Charlie Appleby. The Mile and the Filly & Mare Turf have gone Europe's way more often than not. The two turf sprints usually go to American speed, and only two European-trained horses have ever won the Classic. Our [Breeders' Cup trends and stats](/racing-news/breeders-cup-trends-and-stats/) count every turf winner of the last ten years.

### Pre-entries are not runners

The first names, published on the Wednesday of the week before, are pre-entries. Each race takes 14 starters, or 12 in the Juvenile Turf Sprint and the Dirt Mile. An oversubscribed race fills with winners of the "Win and You're In" qualifiers first, then horses on points, then an international panel's picks. A horse can be pre-entered for two races and run in one, and some never travel. Final entries close on the Monday before the meeting, with the draw that evening, UK time.

### Reading home form from here

Home form is the best evidence a UK punter has. Our results database covers British and Irish racing only, so runs in France, America or Dubai are missing below. The [StableBet Rating](/ai-race-predictor/lab/stablebet-rating/) is our rating of that home form: the official rating, less 2lb for each length a horse was beaten last time, capped at ten lengths. It reads a mark on the home scale and says nothing about Kentucky. It started on the card of 24 September 2026, so a horse that has not run here since then has no figure.

## The 2026 European team, race by race

This is the 2026 picture on Wednesday 21 October, when the Breeders' Cup published a record 255 pre-entries for Keeneland. The fields are set when entries close on Monday 26 October, with the draw that evening, UK time.

### Ombudsman will not travel

Ombudsman was pre-entered for the Turf and ruled out the same afternoon. John Gosden told the Racing Post the horse "only ran four days ago", when he won the Champion Stakes, and the Japan Cup is under consideration instead.

### The team in numbers

Trainers based in Britain, Ireland and France have 70 pre-entries from 64 horses, Ombudsman included, all in the seven turf races and none on dirt. In our results database those horses won 25 of the 51 Group 1s run in Britain and Ireland in 2026, or 23 without Ombudsman. Per-race counts are from the Breeders' Cup's data.

### The Turf

With Ombudsman out, six Europeans here won a Group 1 at home this year: Benvenuto Cellini (the Irish Derby), Bay City Roller (the Coronation Cup), Diamond Necklace (the Nassau), Johanna Walsh (the Irish Oaks), Minnie Hauk (the Champions Fillies & Mares) and Hotazhell, who won the Irish Champion Stakes at 50/1 for Jessica Harrington. George Scott says Bay City Roller goes, with Oisin Murphy riding. Only the official list has Minnie Hauk so far, so treat her as entered, not going. She is one of four here for Aidan O'Brien, with Benvenuto Cellini, Diamond Necklace and Lambourn; Johanna Walsh is trained by Joseph O'Brien. Tiffany earned her place by winning a qualifier at Kentucky Downs for Sir Mark Prescott.

### The Mile

Blue Bolt is 5 from 5 in Britain and Ireland this year, with three Group 1s. Our model rated her top twice, at Royal Ascot and in the Sun Chariot, and she won both, a sample of two. Andrew Balding has not chosen between this and the Filly & Mare Turf. Notable Speech, last year's winner for Charlie Appleby, won the Lockinge and the City of York and qualified in the Woodbine Mile.

Gstaad has the highest StableBet Rating, our figure for home form, of any European pre-entry, 124, and finished eighth of 11 in the QEII the day he carried it. A rating measures the mark a horse carries in, and that QEII shows how little it settles. O'Brien also has the Eclipse winner Constitution River here. Ten Bob Tony, second in that QEII, won the Queen Anne at 50/1 for Ed Walker. Our model never picked Ten Bob Tony or Hotazhell, also entered here; it priced four of Ten Bob Tony's seven runs and none of Hotazhell's three, the Irish Champion card among them, because its Irish coverage is partial.

### The Filly & Mare Turf and the Turf Sprint

Precise, winner of the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes, joins Diamond Necklace, and possibly Blue Bolt, in the Filly & Mare Turf. In the Turf Sprint, Comanche Brave won the July Cup at 11/1 and the Flying Five for Donnacha O'Brien, our model's top-rated runner in the second.

### Friday's juvenile races

Sun Goddess won 6 of her 8 runs at home, all three of her Group 1s among them, and her StableBet Rating of 119 before the Cheveley Park is ten pounds clear of any other European juvenile with a published figure. She runs in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. In the Juvenile Turf, O'Brien's Haffner was our model's pick in the [Silicon Tipster League](/ai-race-predictor/lab/tipster-league/) three times and won twice, Al Hudaiba qualified in the Summer Stakes at Woodbine, and Folsom Blues won the National Stakes for Joseph O'Brien. Libertango drops in trip for the Juvenile Turf Sprint for George Boughey.

Across the team, the model's top-rated League pick landed on one of these horses 24 times from July to October, and 10 won: mostly short prices, a small sample, and none of it in America. Its full record is on the [track record page](/ai-race-predictor/track-record/).

Once the races have been run, the [Breeders' Cup 2026 results](/racing-news/breeders-cup-2026-results/) will carry every winner.

## Betting on it from the UK

UK bookmakers price the Breeders' Cup, so the account you use for British racing will do. Each firm sets its own each-way places and fraction for each race, so check them first ([each-way terms explained](/betting/bet-types/each-way/)), and check whether Best Odds Guaranteed covers American racing at your bookmaker. A bet struck before final entries can be lost if the horse does not run.

Our partner bookmakers have not run a Breeders' Cup offer of their own, only welcome offers usable on any race; the current ones are on the [best free bet offers](/bookmakers/best-free-bet-offers/) page.

### Bet responsibly

The Breeders' Cup is two late nights in a row, with the Classic after 10pm on the Saturday, and it is easy to keep betting later than you meant to. Set one budget for the whole weekend before the first race on Friday, and stop when it is spent rather than chasing it into the Classic. The bookmaker's margin is in every price, so over time the odds run against you. ## Frequently asked questions

### Which British and Irish horses are running at the Breeders' Cup?

Until final entries close on Monday 26 October 2026 there are only pre-entries: 70 of them from 64 horses trained in Britain, Ireland and France, all in the seven turf races. They include Blue Bolt in the Mile, Sun Goddess in the Juvenile Fillies Turf and Minnie Hauk in the Turf. The [full team, race by race](#european-team), is above.

### Can I watch the Breeders' Cup live on ITV4?

Yes, most of it. ITV4's 2026 schedule had Friday's five juvenile races from 6.30pm to 10pm, and Saturday's Mile, Distaff, Turf and Classic from 8pm to 10.45pm. Saturday's first five races, the Filly & Mare Turf among them, start from about 5.10pm, before that window. The [Breeders' Cup guide](/racing-news/breeders-cup/) has every race's UK time.

### What time is the Breeders' Cup on UK time?

In the evening, UK time, on both days. In 2026 Kentucky was four hours behind Britain over the race weekend, which put the Classic, the last race, after 10pm on the Saturday. Every race's UK start time is in our [Breeders' Cup guide](/racing-news/breeders-cup/).

### Can I bet on the Breeders' Cup through my normal app?

Yes. UK bookmakers price the Breeders' Cup races, so a British account covers them, and the price you take is the bookmaker's own, separate from the pool odds on the board in Kentucky. Check the each-way terms for the race and whether your bookmaker's usual concessions apply to American racing, because both vary by firm.

### Is the Breeders' Cup a big deal, or just for proper racing fans?

It is the championship meeting of North American racing: 14 Grade 1 races over two days, first run in 1984. For a British or Irish fan the turf races are the draw. Aidan O'Brien had trained 21 Breeders' Cup winners by the end of 2025.
