## The Turf at a glance

**The Breeders' Cup Turf is run at Keeneland on Saturday 31 October, and nine of the 14 runners are trained in Britain, Ireland or France.** The draw was made on Monday 26 October. Diamond Necklace, third in the Arc on 4 October, is the 3-1 morning-line favourite from post 12, and last year's winner Ethical Diamond has the rail.

The Turf is a Grade 1 over 1m 4f on grass for three-year-olds and older, run at every Breeders' Cup since 1984. It is due off at 5.36pm in Kentucky, which is 9.36pm in Britain, the race before the Classic.

The draw for every race with a European runner is in our [Breeders' Cup 2026 draw guide](/racing-news/breeders-cup-2026-draw-european-runners/), and the [Classic preview](/racing-news/breeders-cup-classic-2026-preview/) covers the last race of the night.

## The draw

Post positions are counted out from the inside rail. The morning line is the track's opening estimate of the odds, set at the draw and written the American way; the pool odds move away from it as money comes in, and a UK bookmaker's price is its own. "AE" means also-eligible: the horse runs only if one in the field comes out.

These are the European runners. The other five in the field are trained outside Europe.

The three shortest prices on the morning line are all European: Diamond Necklace, Bay City Roller and Benvenuto Cellini.

## Diamond Necklace and the O'Brien pair

**Diamond Necklace** won the Nassau at Goodwood on 30 July at 4/6, then ran third in the Arc. The Arc was in France, so our British and Irish results files hold the Nassau as her only run there since June. Christophe Soumillon rides her for Aidan O'Brien, and post 12 puts her well out from the rail.

**Benvenuto Cellini** is O'Brien's other runner, drawn 2 under Ryan Moore. Our files have three runs for him from June: tenth of 13 in the Derby at Epsom at 3/1, a win in the Irish Derby at the Curragh at 7/4, and third of nine in the King George at Ascot at 4/1. He is 6-1 on the morning line.

**Johanna Walsh**, for Joseph O'Brien, won the Irish Oaks at 7/2 after finishing second in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot. She was sixth of nine in the Yorkshire Oaks next time. Mickael Barzalona rides; Dylan Browne McMonagle, on her in all three of those runs, is on Ethical Diamond.

Between them the three O'Brien-trained runners won three of the five Group 1s the European team took in Britain and Ireland this season.

## The rest of the European team

**Bay City Roller** won the Coronation Cup at Epsom in June at 17/2, over 1m 4f, the trip he faces here. His only other run in our files is third of six in the Champion Stakes at Ascot on 17 October, also at 17/2. Oisin Murphy rode him both times and keeps the ride from post 13 for George Scott.

**Ethical Diamond** won this race last year for Willie Mullins, ridden by Dylan McMonagle. At home this season he was ninth of 12 in the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot and then won the Ballyroan at Leopardstown at 11/10. He has drawn the rail at 10-1.

**Hotazhell** won the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown at 50/1 in September for Jessica Harrington, and that was his last run. Before it he was second in a Listed race at Navan and third in a Group 3 at the Curragh. All three of those runs were at shorter trips than the Turf.

**Tiffany** has already won in Kentucky: she took the Kentucky Turf Cup at Kentucky Downs, a "Win and You're In" qualifier, for Sir Mark Prescott. In our files she was second in the Lancashire Oaks at Newmarket at 5/4 in July.

**Survie** qualified with a win at Saratoga for George Boughey. **El Cordobes** runs for Charlie Appleby with William Buick, and our British and Irish files have no run for him since 1 June. **Map Of Stars**, who won the Wolferton at Royal Ascot at 13/2, needs a horse to come out before he gets a run.

## Betting it from the UK

UK bookmakers price the Turf, but on-course betting in America runs through pools, so the odds on the track's board are a dividend that keeps moving until the off. Your bookmaker's price is its own.

- **The draw is done, the field is not final.** A horse can still be scratched, and Map Of Stars only runs if one is. [Ante-post betting explained](/betting/bet-types/ante-post-betting/) covers what happens to your stake.
- **Check the terms.** Each-way places and any Best Odds Guaranteed concession are set by each bookmaker, and many apply only to British and Irish racing. See our [each-way guide](/betting/bet-types/each-way/).
- **Our model does not cover it.** The AI Lab rates British and Irish racing only, so there are no model prices for the Turf. [Understanding odds](/ai-race-predictor/lab/understand-odds/) explains what a price means once the bookmaker's margin is taken out.
