## St Leger Festival 2026: the results, day by day

The Betfred St Leger Festival runs from **Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 September 2026** at Doncaster, four afternoons on Town Moor built around the **St Leger Stakes**, the world's oldest Classic and the final leg of the British Triple Crown. This is the results hub: each day's key winners, with starting prices, added and verified from source as the cards finish. Nothing is filled in ahead of time. A race appears here only once it has been run and the result confirmed.

The week builds through Ladies' Day on Thursday and Cup Day on Friday to the Classic itself on Saturday, run over 1m6f115y on the long, fair Doncaster straight, before a closing card on Sunday. Stamina decides it: the St Leger is the longest of the five Classics and the only one open to both colts and fillies at the trip.

For the week ahead rather than the week just run, the [St Leger Festival hub](/festivals/st-leger-festival/) has the day-by-day schedule and the [St Leger race times and raceday guide](/racing-news/st-leger-festival/) covers TV coverage and how to follow it. For the track itself, see the [St Leger Festival guide](/uk-racecourses/doncaster/st-leger-festival-guide/).

If you are opening an account for the meeting, our [St Leger Festival offers](/bookmakers/st-leger-festival-offers/) page compares the verified free bets. Note the weekend overlaps the [Irish Champions Festival](/bookmakers/irish-champions-festival-offers/) at Leopardstown and the Curragh.

## Thursday 10 September: Ladies' Day

The festival opened on ground officially **Good to Soft (Good in places)**, with the **May Hill Stakes** (Group 2), the two-year-old fillies' championship of the meeting, as the feature of an eight-race card.

**Musical Times (7/4 favourite, W Buick, Charlie Appleby) won the May Hill** by seven and a half lengths from **Scommessa Sicura (4/1)**, with **Speckles (10/1)** a further three and a half lengths back in third. The winner was unbeaten going into the race and stayed so. Appleby's filly is quoted for the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket next month, though nothing is confirmed and autumn plans for two-year-olds change often.

The other Group 2 on the card went to **Waardah (5/2, Callum Rodriguez, Owen Burrows)**, who took the **Park Hill Fillies' Stakes** over 1m6f by a length and three quarters from **Danielle (10/3)**. Waardah wore headgear for the first time and settled better for it. She already had a Group 2 to her name from last season's Lillie Langtry at Goodwood.

The day's shortest-priced winner was **Night In Vegas (5/6)** in the Weatherbys 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes, a 17-runner field that the market got right. The longest was **Bourbon Blues (7/1)** in the Pertemps Network Handicap, who beat the 2/1 favourite Knights Charge.

Friday's Cup Day card follows below, with the Doncaster Cup as its feature.

## Friday 11 September: Cup Day

Friday belongs to the stayers. The **Doncaster Cup** (Group 2) is the closing leg of the Stayers' Triple Crown, after the Ascot Gold Cup and the Goodwood Cup, and one of the oldest continuously run races in the calendar. The ground stayed **Good (Good to Soft in places)** for an eight-race card.

**Caballo De Mar (5/6 favourite, Oisin Murphy, George Scott) won the Doncaster Cup** by a length and a quarter from **Beylerbeyi (5/1)**, with **Ascending (13/2)** third of the seven runners. The five-year-old wore blinkers for the first time, having come home last in the Ascot Gold Cup and fourth in the Lonsdale Cup at York. He took it up approaching two out and, though he idled once in front, held Beylerbeyi's late challenge. Scott said Murphy had been able to keep the horse underneath him for a long way but had to commit sooner than he would have liked. The trainer named the Prix du Cadran as the likely next target, though nothing is confirmed.

The **Flying Childers Stakes** (Group 2, 5f) was the tighter finish of the two Group 2s. **Final Objective (9/4 favourite, James Doyle, H Al Jehani)** got up close to the line to beat **Crownbreaker (16/1)** by a neck, with **Flann Sunna (3/1)** third and long-time leader **Fast Track (16/1)** fourth of eleven.

The card opened with the **Flying Scotsman Stakes** (Listed, 7f), won by **Forbidden Fire (9/2, Oisin Murphy, Andrew Balding)** from **Rock Montreal (5/2)**. The even-money favourite Nabati was third.

Murphy rode three of the day's eight winners: Forbidden Fire, Caballo De Mar and the 12/1 Beresford Gap in the nursery, two of the three for Balding. James Doyle took two, Final Objective and **Silver Lake (13/8)** in the EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap. That fillies' handicap produced the day's strangest placings behind Silver Lake, with the 50/1 Thatwilldoso second and a 100/1 shot fourth.

Saturday's Classic card follows below, with the St Leger Stakes as its feature.

## Saturday 12 September: St Leger Day

The oldest Classic in the world, first run in 1776. The **St Leger Stakes** (Group 1) is run over 1m6f115y, the longest of the five Classics, and the final leg of the British Triple Crown. It is open to three-year-old colts and fillies alike, and it is decided on stamina in a way none of the other Classics are.

**Highwayman (11/1, Saffie Osborne, Joseph O'Brien) won the St Leger** by two and a half lengths from his stablemate **Enceladus (5/2)**, with **Amelia Earhart** third of the eleven runners. Osborne is the first woman to ride the winner of a British Classic, 250 years after the first running. She did not have a ride in the race at the start of the week.

The market had it the other way up. **Christmas Day (7/4 favourite)** won the Derby in June and was trying to become the first horse since Reference Point in 1987 to take the Derby and the St Leger in the same season. He finished outside the first four. Enceladus was next in the betting at 5/2, so Joseph O'Brien trained both the winner and the runner-up while the shortest price in the field came home beaten. The Classic was run on **Good (Good to Soft in places)**.

O'Brien said afterwards that Highwayman had been a slow learner and mentally immature, and that "when he got rolling he improved hand over fist". The colt had already won the Vinnie Roe Stakes.

Billy Loughnane, second in the Classic on Enceladus, won two earlier races for Charlie Appleby: the **Champagne Stakes** (Group 2, 7f) with **Desert Castle (Evens)** from a field of five, and the opening maiden with **Al Jabbar (3/1)**.

The **Park Stakes** (Group 2, 7f) went to **More Thunder (4/5, Tom Marquand, William Haggas)**, and the yard doubled up when **Scoville (5/1)** took the Pertemps Network Handicap. The **Portland**, a 21-runner sprint handicap over 5f, came down to its two 11/2 chances: **Air Force One (C Lee, G R Oldroyd)** held **Twilight Calls** for the win.

Doncaster's closing day went to the outsiders more often than the market expected. The feature, the **Sceptre Fillies' Stakes** (Group 3), was won by **Pina Sonata (12/1, Daniel Muscutt, J R Fanshawe)** from **Touleen (10/3)**, with the 5/4 favourite **Forty Years On** run out of it in fourth of nineteen. John and Thady Gosden's **Valedictory (7/4)** made all the running to win the **Mallard Handicap** over 1m6½f for Robert Havlin. Callum Rodriguez rode a treble across the card: **Ancient State (9/2)** in the opener, **Blue Brother (5/2)** in the second race, and second on **Ernst Blofeld** behind Valedictory in the Mallard.
