## Wednesday's racing at a glance

Two riders had trebles on Wednesday. At Newton Abbot, Harry Skelton won the first two races on Vango Can Go (1/4) and Real Quartz (2/1), then added Paddockwood (8/1) in the 2:51pm handicap hurdle, all three trained by D Skelton. At Dundalk, Gary Carroll won three of the first five races for three different trainers: Sonoran (11/8) for G M Lyons, Leveraging (5/1) for S Lavery and Pocket Jacks (6/1) for A Oliver.

The best race of the day was the Listed Robin Hood Stakes at Nottingham, run over a mile on soft ground, heavy in places. Oolong Poobong (7/1) won it for E Bethell and Callum Rodriguez, and the 13/8 favourite Centigrade finished last of the eight runners. Rodriguez had won the race before it, the colts' maiden, on Leo Phelps (5/1) for Owen Burrows.

The 38 races were spread over five meetings. Nottingham opened at 12:46pm, Huntingdon and Newton Abbot staged seven jumps races each, Dundalk raced through the afternoon on its all-weather track, and Kempton's nine-race card ran into the evening, with the last race off at 8:15pm. The longest-priced winner was What's Your Game (22/1) at Huntingdon, who beat the 4/5 favourite Current Edition by the narrowest margin of the afternoon there.

## Meeting by meeting

Times below are UK time. Prices are starting prices (SP).

### Nottingham (soft, heavy in places, seven races)

Favourites struggled on the testing ground: only Star Rose (10/11) won, taking the fillies' maiden for R M Beckett and H Crouch. Rodriguez's double came in the third and fourth races, Leo Phelps beating the 4/7 favourite Fulcrum in the colts' maiden before Oolong Poobong's Listed win. The two five-furlong sprints went to Easterby stables: The Resdev Roman (11/1) for M & D Easterby and Joanna Mason won the opening nursery, where the joint-favourites finished third and fourth, and Vince L'Amour (9/1) took the 1:16pm handicap for T D Easterby and D Allan. Cieren Fallon won the staying handicap on Gaspacho (5/2) for W J Haggas, and Electrical (9/1) won the 15-runner amateur riders' finale for Brian Toomey and Mr Henry Callan, with the 3/1 favourite Sweet Kiss ninth.

### Huntingdon (good, seven races)

What's Your Game's 22/1 win for G Nicholls and Lorcan Murtagh was the shock of the day. Harry Cobden rode a double for two different trainers: That's Nice (10/3) for N J Henderson in the mares' handicap hurdle, beating both joint-favourites, and Nazare (7/1) for James Owen in the 3:47pm handicap chase, in which the favourite It's Top was pulled up. Anytrixwilldo (5/1) won the amateur riders' chase for J & A O'Neill and Mr James King after the favourite Jack's A Legend was pulled up. Seraphic (9/4 favourite) won for D Killahena & G McPherson, No Mean Feat (12/1) took the novices' handicap hurdle for S Hodgson, and Persian Art (2/1 favourite) won the bumper for Miss H C Knight and G Sheehan.

### Newton Abbot (good to soft, soft in places, seven races)

Skelton's treble opened with Vango Can Go winning a four-runner novices' hurdle by 12 lengths. J Tizzard also had a double, with two different riders: Star Of Affinity (5/2 favourite) under Lily Pinchin in the female jockeys' handicap chase, and Mask Of Zorro (5/2) under Brendan Powell in the novices' handicap chase over three miles and a furlong. The Four Sixes (3/1) won the two-mile handicap chase for Chester Williams and Rex Dingle, and Par Avion (11/8 favourite) won the closing bumper for H Fry and Bryan Carver. Four of the seven favourites won.

### Dundalk (standard, eight races)

After Carroll's treble, Paddy Harnett rode two winners: Little Miss Muffet (12/1) for Donnacha O'Brien in the fillies' maiden, beating the favourite Nevermindtherain, and Roman Harry (11/2) for S M Duffy in the second division of the 0-60 handicap. Tantardini (5/2) won the EBF maiden for A P O'Brien and J Cleary, with the favourite Mudyrk ninth. Crayons In The Sky (1/2 favourite) won the auction maiden for Stephen Thorne and Jack Kearney, and Gallo Dell Cielo (10/3) took the mile-and-a-half handicap for P J Flynn and Robyn Donaghue-Leahy.

### Kempton Park (standard to slow, nine races)

Oisin Murphy and A M Balding won twice with two favourites: Maria Da Silva (7/4) in the fillies' handicap and Winged One (3/1) in the 7:45pm handicap. Treasurer (20/1) won the nursery for C Fellowes and David Probert, with the favourite Pure Mint sixth of seven. The other winners were Marianne Mozart (9/2) in the apprentice race, Girls Allowed (5/4 favourite) and Melodical (7/1) in the two divisions of the mile handicap, Thespian Queen (11/8 favourite) for Eve Johnson Houghton, Poor Relation (17/2) for Ollie Sangster and Strong Voice (9/2) for James Horton in the finale.

## Favourites and the StableBet Ratings: one day's numbers

The SP favourite won 13 of the 38 races. Three races had joint-favourites (the opening nursery at Nottingham and two hurdles at Huntingdon) and none of them won, so the count is the same however joint-favourites are treated. By meeting, favourites won four at Kempton, four at Newton Abbot, two at Dundalk, two at Huntingdon and one at Nottingham.

The horse top-rated on the morning's StableBet Ratings won nine of the 33 races that had ratings; five races, all maidens, novice events or bumpers, had none. Three of those nine winners, all at Newton Abbot, shared the top rating with another runner, so the stricter figure is six. The top-rated winners that were not favourite were Marianne Mozart, Poor Relation and Nazare, the last two at 17/2 and 7/1.

Treat all of this as one day's numbers. Thirty-three rated races is far too few to say whether a rating is any good, and Wednesday's split could easily reverse tomorrow. The running record, wins and losses together, is on the [AI race predictor track record](/ai-race-predictor/track-record/). Nothing on this page suggests a way to make money from the ratings or from favourites.
