Clonmel Racecourse
Tipperary's stiff, undulating right-hander at Powerstown Park
Clonmel Racecourse, also known as Powerstown Park, sits in the Powerstown area about 2 km from Clonmel town centre in Co. Tipperary, in the province of Munster. It is a turf, right-handed oval of roughly a mile and a quarter, with a markedly undulating circuit and a stiff uphill run to the line that makes it one of the more demanding tracks in Ireland. The course is dual-purpose, staging Flat racing in the spring and summer and National Hunt racing through the autumn and winter. Racing has taken place on the site since the early 19th century, with the modern enclosed course developing over more than 150 years. Clonmel is best known for its jumps fixtures, in particular the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase, run each November, which has been contested by leading staying chasers.
