Fairyhouse Racecourse
Home of the Irish Grand National, in Co. Meath
Fairyhouse is a turf racecourse in the parish of Ratoath, Co. Meath, about 23 km north-west of Dublin and just off the N3. It staged its first race meeting in 1848 and has been the home of the Irish Grand National, run each Easter Monday, since 1870. Owned and operated by Horse Racing Ireland, it is a dual-purpose venue staging both Flat and National Hunt racing. The course is a wide, galloping, broadly square right-handed circuit of about one mile and six and a half furlongs, with a run away from the stands, a descent down the back straight and a roughly two-and-a-half-furlong home straight that finishes slightly uphill. Its chase fences are regarded as among the stiffer in Ireland. Beyond the Easter Festival, Fairyhouse also hosts a Winter Festival featuring the Hatton's Grace Hurdle.
