Bellewstown Racecourse

Historic Hill of Crockafotha course, racing since 1726

Bellewstown is a long-established rural racecourse set atop the Hill of Crockafotha in Co. Meath, roughly 8km south of Drogheda, with views to the Mourne Mountains and the Irish Sea. Racing has been recorded here since August 1726, and the course gained royal patronage under King George III in 1780. It is a left-handed turf track of about one mile and one furlong, sharp and undulating with cambers and a slightly uphill finish; a separate chute off the Hill provides a steep downhill start for five-furlong sprints. Both Flat and hurdle racing are staged across meetings spread through the year (notably April, July, August and October). Bellewstown is best known for its atmospheric summer festival, a multi-day July fixture that draws large crowds to the hilltop setting.
