Tramore Racecourse
Tight, undulating seaside circuit above Tramore beach
Tramore Racecourse sits on elevated ground at Crobally Upper, just above the seaside town of Tramore in Co. Waterford, about 13 km south of Waterford City and a short walk from the town centre. A dual-purpose venue staging both Flat and National Hunt racing, it is known for its panoramic views over Tramore beach and bay, and for one of the tightest, trickiest circuits in Ireland. The right-handed turf track runs around roughly seven furlongs, climbing from the winning post toward the back straight before a sharp downhill run and an uphill finish, with notably sharp turns that suit nimble, well-balanced horses. Racing moved to the present course in 1912, having previously been held on the beach. Its showpiece is the August Summer Festival, run over four days in mid-August.
