Ballinrobe Racecourse
The only racecourse in Co. Mayo, a tight western turf track.
Ballinrobe Racecourse sits roughly a mile from the County Mayo town of Ballinrobe, on the N84 Castlebar road in the west of Ireland. It is the only racecourse in Mayo and one of just four in Connacht, staging both Flat and National Hunt fixtures across around nine to ten meetings, chiefly from spring through to September. Racing has been held at the present site since 1921, with earlier meetings around the town recorded much further back. The right-handed, roughly oval turf circuit is around a mile for the Flat and about nine furlongs over jumps, with a short run-in, a sharp final bend on the older course and an uphill back straight that gives way to a downhill run home; a more galloping outer loop has since been added. Its highlight is the McHale Raceday, which features the McHale Mayo National.
