Dundalk Racecourse
Ireland's only all-weather, floodlit Flat track.
Dundalk Stadium sits just north of Dundalk town in Co. Louth, off the M1/N1 between Dublin and Belfast. It is Ireland's only all-weather racecourse, a floodlit, dual horse-and-greyhound venue that races Flat on a wax-coated Polytrack surface year round, largely on Friday and Saturday evenings. Horse racing at the site dates back over a century, but the turf course (used mainly for National Hunt) closed in 2001 and the current all-weather circuit opened in August 2007. The track is a left-handed oval of about a mile and a quarter, with a separate five-furlong sprint straight. Its highest-class fixture is the Group 3 Diamond Stakes in autumn, with the Group 3 Mercury Stakes also staged there. The all-weather surface is regarded as one of Europe's finest and has been won on by subsequent top-level performers.
