How StableBet Rating actually picks
The rule reads one number per runner from the morning card, and nothing else. In a handicap where every declared runner has a rating, it backs the highest. When two or more share the top figure, the higher official rating takes it, and if they are level on that too, the horse whose name comes first A to Z. Every other race it sits out: races that are not handicaps, and handicaps with a runner the rating cannot score, which is usually a horse with no previous run in our records or no official rating. The races it sits out are listed on this page with the reason, so a race with no pick is never mistaken for a missed one.
About StableBet Rating
The StableBet Rating is the gold mark beside every runner on our racecards. It starts from the horse's official rating for today's race and takes off 2lb for each length it was beaten on its last finished run, up to 10 lengths, so a last-time-out winner keeps its full mark. It is worked out the same way for every runner, from official ratings and race results alone. No model, market price or AI goes into it.
We tested it before it went on the racecard. In handicaps, the horse it rates top won more often than the horse with the top official rating. Outside handicaps it did not measurably improve on the official rating, which is why this entry backs a horse in handicaps only.
The market reads the same form. Backing the top-rated horse wins about as often as its starting price says, so the rating is already priced in, and at level stakes it should lose roughly the bookmaker's margin, like everything else on this board. Its record here measures how often the top-rated horse wins. That helps with reading a racecard, and it is not a way to make money.
Why it runs only in AI Picks the Winner
The rating never sees a price. It comes from official ratings and race results, so it sits with the blind picks in AI Picks the Winner, beside the five chatbots reading the race without the odds and The Favourite. AI Finds the Value Bets asks each entrant for the runner the market has underrated, and a figure with no view of the price has nothing to say about that, so it is not entered there.

- How often the top-rated horse wins. Its races are handicaps only, where fields are bigger and strike rates run lower, so set it beside the others with that in mind
- How often its pick is also the morning favourite, in the Backed the fav column. The market reads the same form, so the two often agree
- Its return per £1 against the bookmaker's margin. The rating is priced in, so expect a steady loss at level stakes, and treat a short winning run as noise
- The races it sits out, listed on this page: every race that is not a handicap, and any handicap with a runner the rating cannot score
