The Current BetTom Welcome Offer
BetTom refunds 50% of first-day net losses as a free bet, capped at £25. That makes it a loss refund, not a bet-and-get offer: placing the qualifying bets earns nothing by itself, and you are paid only if your first day ends in the red. The full £25 needs a net loss of £50. The offer is for new customers, covers sportsbook bets only and has no bonus code.
To qualify, deposit and then place at least three bets of £10 or more, each at evens (2.0) or bigger and each on a separate event. Your first day runs from that deposit to 23:59 UK time. BetTom adds up your settled stakes and returns for that window. If the stakes exceed the returns by £10 or more, you receive 50% of the loss as one free bet. A punter who wins on day one gets little or nothing.
Our verdict: a fair welcome for a value-minded punter who was going to bet £30 to £50 on day one anyway, and a poor reason to open an account by itself. The refund grows as your losses grow, which rewards the wrong thing. We would never size a first day to earn it.
If you want to be paid whatever the result, compare bet-and-get and deposit-match deals on our offers hub. For a racing punter the reasons to consider BetTom sit elsewhere. It offers Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish horse racing and a Double Result Payout. Our BetTom review sets out the terms of both.
Stablebet is an independent UK racing publication. BetTom is one of our affiliate partners, so we earn a commission if you sign up through our links. It does not change what we write or how we score.
We last checked these terms on 23 September 2026 against BetTom's own promotion page. BetTom can change or withdraw the promotion, so read the live terms before you deposit.
Full Terms and How to Claim
These are BetTom's terms as we read them on 23 September 2026, from its own promotion page and its General Terms. The promotion has been available since 19 June 2026. It runs until BetTom amends, suspends or withdraws it. BetTom describes no opt-in step. You register, deposit and bet, and it credits the free bet automatically once you qualify.
Who can claim it
The offer is for new BetTom customers aged 18 or over. It covers sportsbook bets only, so casino bets do not count. The promotion names no excluded sports or markets, so bets on horse racing should count. BetTom allows one free bet per person, family, household, email address, IP address, telephone number, payment account and shared environment. It says duplicate accounts will not qualify. There is no bonus code. BetTom's wording is "do not use a bonus code on your first deposit".
The qualifying bets
Your first day starts when you make your first deposit and ends at 23:59 UK time. In that window you need at least three bets. Each bet must be for £10 or more of real money, on a separate event. Each must also be at odds of evens (2.0) or bigger. We read "separate events" as separate races, so three bets on one race would not qualify. Bets placed with free bets or bonus funds, or towards another offer's wagering, do not count.
The minimum deposit is £10, but three bets of £10 need £30 in your account. Deposit before the racing you plan to bet on, because the clock starts at the deposit.
How the refund is worked out
BetTom defines your first-day loss as all settled stakes less all returns before 23:59. The loss must be at least £10. You then receive 50% of it as one free bet, capped at £25. The table is our arithmetic, not a BetTom table.
| First-day result | Free bet you receive |
|---|---|
| Net loss under £10, level or in profit | Nothing |
| Net loss of £10 (the minimum) | £5 |
| Net loss of £20 | £10 |
| Net loss of £30 (three £10 bets, all lost) | £15 |
| Net loss of £50 or more | £25 (the cap) |
At the £30 minimum, a single winner leaves you with little or nothing. If all three bets lose, the refund is £15. If one wins at evens and two lose, the net loss is £10 and the refund is £5. If one wins at any price bigger than evens and two lose, the loss falls below the £10 minimum. You get nothing.
Settled stakes and returns before 23:59 are what count. A bet still running at that time may sit outside the sum. Choose races that will be settled well before midnight. BetTom doesn't say whether a bet that fails the qualifying rules still counts towards your loss. A bet at odds shorter than evens is one example. Don't assume it does.
The free bet
BetTom says it credits the free bet up to 24 hours after you qualify. You then have 7 days from crediting to use it in full. The promotion sets no minimum odds for the free bet. It says the free bet must be used in its entirety. It doesn't mention splitting it, so plan on a single stake. The free bet can't be withdrawn or transferred and has no cash alternative. The stake is not returned with winnings: a £25 free bet at evens that wins pays £25, not £50.
What BetTom can change
BetTom may amend, suspend or remove the promotion at any time at its sole discretion. It doesn't promise advance notice. Any change is "without prejudice" to customers who have already been awarded a free bet or completed the qualifying bets. BetTom may also restrict or remove access to the promotion where safer gambling tools are active on your account. It can do the same where it considers participation unsuitable. In any dispute its decision is final. Separately, its General Terms let it close any account at any time and decline or limit any bet (clauses 15.2 and 7.3).
The casino offer is separate
BetTom runs a separate casino welcome offer: 50% of first-day casino losses as bonus funds, up to £50, with wagering attached. It has its own terms, and this guide covers the sportsbook offer only. BetTom's own Trustpilot profile presents the two as alternatives, using the word "or". We could not confirm from its terms whether one customer can claim both. If that matters to you, ask BetTom's live chat before you deposit.
The App Store description still says "up to £50" for the sportsbook offer. That figure belongs to the casino offer. BetTom's promotion page says £25, and we go by the promotion page.
How It Compares to the UK Market
A welcome offer usually rewards one of three things: a bet, a deposit or a loss. The shape decides when you are paid and what the money is worth. That matters more than the headline figure. The live comparison pages linked below carry other bookmakers' terms. This page compares structures.
| Structure | You are paid when | Worth most when | What to watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-day loss refund (BetTom) | Your day-one net loss reaches the minimum | You lose heavily, up to the cap | A winning day pays nothing, and the refund is a free bet |
| Bet-and-get tokens | The qualifying bet settles, win or lose | You can use every token at a fair price | Tokens often carry set uses and short expiry dates |
| Deposit match | You make the deposit | You clear the wagering | Bonus funds usually carry wagering before you can withdraw |
| Single free bet | The qualifying bet settles, win or lose | You use it at a bigger price | One shot, and the stake is not returned |
What a loss refund is worth
BetTom's structure stands apart on one point: its value depends on your result. A bet-and-get offer or a single free bet usually pays once the qualifying bet settles. A punter who wins on the day still collects. A cashback-style loss refund pays only if you lose. It is worth the most on a losing day and nothing on a winning one.
The value ratio tops out at a £25 free bet for a £50 loss, or 50p for every pound lost. A free bet returns winnings without the stake. At even money it is worth about half its face value before the bookmaker's margin. It is worth more at bigger prices, where you collect less often. In cash terms the best case is worth under 50p in the pound.
Where the racing value sits
For a racing punter, BetTom's concessions matter more than the welcome offer. The refund is paid once. Best Odds Guaranteed and the Double Result Payout can apply each time you bet on UK and Irish racing. Best Odds Guaranteed pays the starting price when it is bigger than the price you took. The Double Result Payout covers races where the result is amended before the weigh-in. It pays win bets on both the first past the post and the official result. Both carry caps and exclusions, which our BetTom review sets out.
Loss refunds are ranked on our cashback offers page. Bet-and-get deals and single free bets are compared on our free bet offers page. The offers hub lists the offers we have verified.
Who Should Claim This Offer
The smallest first day that qualifies is three £10 bets at evens or bigger, on three separate events: £30 in all. The refund exists only if the day ends in a net loss of £10 or more. So the offer suits a punter who will bet roughly £30 to £50 on day one whatever the incentive. For that punter the qualifying bets are bets they had already chosen. The refund costs nothing extra to earn. Size the day by what you would have staked anyway, not by what the refund pays.
It also suits someone who accepts the trade. The money arrives only after a loss, as a free bet that returns winnings and not the stake. A good first day earns nothing.
Who should look elsewhere
- Anyone who wants a free bet whatever happens. Bet-and-get deals usually pay once the qualifying bet settles, while this one pays only if you lose.
- Anyone who would keep betting to chase a £50 loss. That turns a small cushion into a bigger loss.
- Casino players. The sportsbook offer excludes casino bets, and the casino has its own welcome offer.
- Anyone who wants a free bet without staking. There is no version of this offer without three bets of £10 or more.
- Anyone who cannot bet early in the day. The clock starts at your first deposit and stops at 23:59. A late deposit leaves little room for three bets on separate events.
Using it responsibly
Set a deposit limit before your first bet, at what you would have spent without the offer. Never stake more to earn a bigger refund. The £25 maximum needs a £50 loss, and no free bet justifies a loss you had not planned. Treat the free bet as a small rebate on a bad day, not income.
BetTom's terms let it restrict or remove access to the promotion where safer gambling tools are active on your account. They do not say which tools. Its General Terms list deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. We would still set a limit, because your own controls matter more than a free bet. Our guide to opening a betting account covers responsible gambling setup. If betting is causing you harm, call GamCare on 0808 8020 133 or visit BeGambleAware.org.
