Does Best Odds Guaranteed cover Grand National ante-post bets?

No. Across every operator in our research, BOG applies only to bets placed on race day once the guarantee is active, not to ante-post bets taken in the weeks or months before. BetGoodwin and William Hill both list ante-post explicitly as an exclusion, and it's standard practice across the market rather than a National-specific rule. Is BOG still worth having if my bookmaker gates it?

It depends what you clear easily. LiveScore Bet's gate (£25 staked in the prior 7 days, rolling) is straightforward for anyone who already bets regularly. Verified Monday 24 August 2026, around seven and a half months out from Grand National day (Saturday 10 April 2027).

Best Odds Guaranteed pays out the bigger of your taken price or the starting price on a win bet. The National is where that matters most: it's the biggest betting race of the year by turnover, prices move fast in the final hour as money floods in from once-a-year punters, and a price taken the week before can be well adrift of the price the horse actually starts at. BOG is the mechanic that protects you if the market moves in your favour between the two.

2026 has been a year of BOG firms tightening rather than loosening terms. Star Sports withdrew BOG entirely in December 2024, and William Hill's own help pages moved its BOG from a standard feature to an invite-only one during 2026, a real step down from simple opt-in. Lining up which firms still pay it, and which now gate or restrict it, is worth doing before the race rather than assuming your usual account still covers you the way it did last year.

Betfred runs Best Odds Guaranteed across all UK and Irish racing, the National included, with no opt-in and no staking gate to qualify. Our own operator research (assessed 4 July 2026) calls it the single biggest value concession in the market for Betfred, retained in full while several rivals narrowed or withdrew their own terms during 2024 to 2026. QuinnBet: BOG on both UK and Irish racing

QuinnBet is one of very few UK-licensed books that still runs Best Odds Guaranteed on both UK and Irish racing. With Irish-trained runners a regular feature of National fields, that dual coverage is a real point of difference. Assessed 2 August 2026, alongside a 10% weekly loss-back free bet (capped at £20) and a money-back concession if your selection finishes second to the SP favourite, a separate mechanic from BOG worth knowing about.

HighBet and BetGoodwin: BOG retained at two of the smaller specialists

HighBet carries Best Odds Guaranteed as one of a small set of racing concessions (alongside Non-Runner Money Back, covered on our Grand National NRNB page), reviewed 20 June 2026. BetGoodwin runs BOG on UK and Irish horse and greyhound racing up to £1,000 a bet, verified against the operator's own published promotions on 2 August 2026; ante-post, special markets and international racing are excluded from BOG at both firms.

LiveScore Bet: BOG on UK and Irish racing, but you have to earn it first

LiveScore Bet runs BOG on UK and Irish racing from 10am on race day, assessed 2 August 2026, with one catch: you only hold it once you have staked over £25 in the previous seven days on a rolling basis. Light or occasional stakers don't qualify, which matters for a race a lot of once-a-year punters bet without an established account history. It also excludes ante-post and international racing.

William Hill: Best Odds Guaranteed moved to invite-only during 2026

This is the one to check before the race if you already hold a William Hill account. Our own research (assessed 23 July 2026, citing William Hill's own help pages) found BOG has moved from a standard feature to invite-only, meaning you need to be invited before you can even opt in. William Hill's own support pages put the daily cap at £25,000 a customer once BOG applies, with the same ante-post and derived-market exclusions as before. William Hill still runs a wider extra-places programme than most rivals (see our extra places page), which keeps it a flagship pick for the National overall, but BOG specifically is no longer something every account can rely on.

Star Sports: no BOG, Star Boosts and the on-course pitches instead

Star Sports withdrew Best Odds Guaranteed in December 2024 and hasn't brought it back; our research records the withdrawal as the operator's main value gap. What replaced it is Star Boosts (curated price boosts on selected runners), the 0800 052 1321 phone trader desk that takes six-figure bets, and pitches on-course at Aintree itself, one of the few festivals where Star Sports has a physical presence every day of the meeting.

10bet, Spreadex and Fruity King: no BOG on racing

10bet runs no Best Odds Guaranteed on horse racing at all (reviewed 31 May 2026). Spreadex, built around sports spread betting alongside a fixed-odds book, also runs no BOG (measured 17 July 2026 against a 26-book market); its point of difference is the racing-spread suite, not BOG. All four carry Best Odds Guaranteed on UK and Irish racing in our research, and Bet365's package in particular is rated among the strongest overall racing-value offerings we assess.
