Roscommon Racecourse
Sharp summer-evening dual-purpose track in the west
Roscommon Racecourse sits on Racecourse Road just west of Roscommon town in Co. Roscommon, in the west of Ireland roughly 76 km north-east of Galway and 136 km west of Dublin. A dual-purpose course staging both Flat and National Hunt racing, it is known for its compact summer-evening fixtures, running around nine meetings a year between mid-May and late September or early October. The turf track is right-handed and roughly a mile and a quarter round, configured as an oval for the Flat and a more rectangular circuit over jumps, with sharp turns and a rise to the winning post that make it a quick, speed-favouring course. Its signature dates are the Listed Lenebane Stakes on the Flat in July and the Grade 3 Kilbegnet Novice Chase over fences in September.
