The market got it wrong. So did Ryan Moore.
Sunday 24 May, the Curragh: Precise (Wayne Lordan) won the 2026 Irish 1000 Guineas by 2½L from stablemate True Love (Ryan Moore) — a Ballydoyle one-two and a 7½-length Newmarket form-line reversal in 21 days.
At Newmarket on 3 May, True Love beat Precise by 5L. Lordan rode True Love that day; Moore picked Precise. Both switched fillies for the rematch. True Love kept Moore. Precise inherited Lordan. The result inverted: Precise drew clear in the closing furlong, won easing down, and Aidan O'Brien — chasing his 12th Irish 1000G — said simply, "It's very special" (per TDN).
The race result in numbers:
| Pos | Filly | Trainer | Jockey | Margin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Precise | A O'Brien | Wayne Lordan | — |
| 2 | True Love | A O'Brien | Ryan Moore | 2½L |
| 3 | (TBC — full result on official racecard) | — | — | — |
Two stories in one race. First, Precise's comeback — beaten 5L at Newmarket through what O'Brien attributed to a fever scare, fully fit at the Curragh, and dominant. Second, the Ryan Moore jockey-choice story — Moore picked Precise at Newmarket and lost; he switched to True Love at the Curragh and lost again. Twice this spring, Coolmore's senior stable jockey has been on the wrong half of a Coolmore one-two.
The win completed Aidan O'Brien's Coolmore weekend Classic double, alongside Gstaad's Irish 2000G win on Saturday — O'Brien's record-extending 13th Irish 2000G + 12th Irish 1000G. Both Classics, the same weekend, the same trainer.

How the race ran
Precise sat third in a 9-runner field through the Curragh's early stages. Lordan settled her behind the leaders down the back, tracked True Love's outside through the wide turn, and asked her to lengthen 2 furlongs out. Precise pulled clear inside the final furlong, won easing down, and was 2½L ahead at the line — the kind of authoritative win that ends a form-line argument.
True Love (Ryan Moore) ran on for 2nd but never threatened Precise's run. The 5L Newmarket gap inverted into a 2½L deficit — a 7½L swing on identical race-day class.
The Newmarket fever-scare narrative — proved
Pre-Newmarket, Precise was the 9/4 favourite. A reported respiratory infection in the 10 days before the race compressed her conditioning; she finished 7th, beaten ~5L by stablemate True Love at 25/1. Aidan O'Brien post-Newmarket: "There's nothing wrong with her at home now. She'll come on fit for the run" (per Racing Post 4 May).
The Curragh confirmed it. Precise's Newmarket effort was fitness-compromised, not form-related. The 9/4 favouritism was correct; the result misled.
The Moore jockey-choice story
Ryan Moore chose Precise at Newmarket. She finished 7th. Lordan rode True Love and won at 25/1.
Ryan Moore switched to True Love for the Curragh. True Love finished 2nd. Lordan rode Precise and won at 7/4F.
That's twice this spring Moore's stable-jockey decision has cost Coolmore the better filly. The pattern matters because the jockey choice is one of the strongest pre-race signals in the sport — Moore's decisions usually flag which Coolmore horse is the true No. 1. This time the signal failed, both ways.
The Racing Post called it bluntly: "The market and Ryan Moore get it wrong as 'serious filly' Precise proves too good" (per Racing Post race report).
Wayne Lordan — the Coolmore quiet man
Lordan rode True Love at Newmarket. He won the Coolmore-vs-Coolmore Classic at 25/1. He rode Precise at the Curragh. He won the Coolmore-vs-Coolmore Classic at 7/4F. Lordan is two-for-two on Aidan O'Brien Classic doubles in 2026 — a record Moore matches nominally but not on which Coolmore filly.
For Coolmore's senior rider stakes, this is the conversation of the post-Curragh week. The next test is Royal Ascot's Coronation Stakes on 19 June — does Moore keep True Love? Or does the form-line shift convince Coolmore to flip?

What it means for Royal Ascot
The Coronation Stakes (G1, 1m, 3yo fillies, Friday 19 June) is now a Coolmore rematch question.
Both Precise and True Love are entered. Both are Aidan O'Brien-trained. Both will likely run. Whichever filly Ryan Moore picks signals Coolmore's read of the Curragh form — and after the Newmarket / Curragh sequence, the signal is more loaded than it's been in years.
The post-Curragh Coronation Stakes ladder
| Filly | Trainer | Curragh form | Newmarket form | Royal Ascot price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Precise | A O'Brien | Won 7/4F | 7th 9/4F (fever-scare) | Likely 6/4-2/1F post-Curragh |
| True Love | A O'Brien | 2nd 11/10F | 1st 25/1 | 5/2-3/1 |
| Evolutionist | K Burke | (didn't run Curragh) | 2nd 16/1 | 5/1-6/1 each-way value |
| Venetian Lace | A O'Brien | (didn't run Curragh) | 3rd 33/1 | 12/1+ |
| Felicitas | E Walker | (didn't run Curragh) | (Musidora 2nd) | 14/1+ |
The structural question: if Precise was 7½L superior to True Love at the Curragh, and True Love was 1¾L clear of Evolutionist at Newmarket, then Precise has a notional ~9L edge over the Burke filly on combined form. That makes Precise a single-figure shot at Royal Ascot rather than the 5/2-3/1 she'd be on Curragh form alone.
What Coolmore decides next
Aidan O'Brien's Coronation Stakes pattern: he typically runs 2-3 fillies, with the named lead carrying the senior jockey. After this weekend, the lead is Precise. Moore's choice matters less than which filly Coolmore briefs as the No. 1 for the Royal Ascot week.
Watch for the 48-hour declarations stage on Wednesday 17 June — that's when the jockey bookings + draw will lock the Coronation Stakes shape.
Wider Royal Ascot 2026 implications
Beyond the Coronation Stakes, Precise's win shifts two adjacent ante-post markets:
- Falmouth Stakes (Newmarket, 10 July) — the natural Coronation Stakes overflow target. Whichever filly doesn't win at Royal Ascot is likely to run here. Coolmore's Falmouth book may get longer.
- Coolmore fillies' Royal Ascot G1 hand generally — Precise is now in the top tier alongside True Love. Both Coolmore-trained 3yo fillies are likely to dominate the fillies' G1 markets through August.
