Looking for the current Royal Ascot Week?
Our live guide has 2026+ racetimes, TV coverage and runners as they're confirmed.
See the Royal Ascot Week live hubFriday 19 June 2026 β fourth day of Royal Ascot, "Coronation Day". First race 2:30pm, last race 6:10pm. Seven-race card on ITV1 / ITVX from approximately 1:30pm.
Friday is the only day of the meeting with two Group 1s β and the most balanced single card editorially:
- Commonwealth Cup (G1, 6f, 3:05pm) β the only 3yo-restricted sprint Group 1 in the calendar
- Coronation Stakes (G1, 1m, 4:20pm) β 3yo fillies' miler, the Royal Ascot Guineas-form-line tester for fillies
The 2026 storyline is True Love β Sunday 3 May's 1000 Guineas winner (see our 1000 Guineas result piece). Aidan O'Brien explicitly named the Coronation Stakes as her next target post-race, with the Curragh Irish 1000 Guineas (Sat 23 May) as the prep.
The Coronation Stakes form line for 2026 is rebuilt around the post-Newmarket carve-up: True Love won the 1000G at 5/1 SP, the favourite Precise (9/5F) was 7th. The Curragh on 23 May restages the Newmarket field; the Coronation on 19 June restages it again on different ground.
This piece covers the race-by-race breakdown of Friday's card, the betting angles, and where to bet.

For the rest of the week:
Friday's seven-race card
| Off-time | Race | Distance | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2:30pm | Albany Stakes | 6f | G3 (juvenile fillies) |
| 3:05pm | Commonwealth Cup | 6f | G1 (3yo sprinters) |
| 3:40pm | Sandringham Stakes | 1m | Handicap (3yo fillies) |
| 4:20pm | Coronation Stakes | 1m | G1 (3yo fillies) |
| 5:00pm | Duke of Edinburgh Stakes | 1m4f | Handicap |
| 5:35pm | Hardwicke Stakes | 1m4f | G2 (older horses) |
| 6:10pm | Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes | 5f | Handicap |
Albany Stakes (G3, 2:30pm) β juvenile fillies' value-pick
Group 3 over 6 furlongs for 2yo fillies, often the meeting's value-pick juvenile race. The form line points to the Cheveley Park (Newmarket, September) and the Lowther (York, August). Charlie Appleby + Karl Burke + Aidan O'Brien dominate the trainer column historically.
Commonwealth Cup (G1, 3:05pm) β 3yo sprint championship
The only 3yo-restricted sprint Group 1 in the British calendar. 6 furlongs, fast-developing 3yos who haven't quite stepped up to face the older sprinters yet. 2025 winner: Time For Sandals (Harry Eustace / R Kingscote) β held off Arizona Blaze (2nd) and Rayevka (3rd). Time For Sandals went on to chase the 2026 Minster (8th) before any Royal Ascot return decision.
The Commonwealth Cup is the natural Royal Ascot vehicle for 3yos with G2/G3 sprint form from the spring β the Sandown Sandy Lane Stakes, the Goodwood Cup-Day sprint trial, the Newmarket Palace House. The 2026 form lines for the race will only crystallise after the Sandy Lane (Sandown, 23 May) and the Palace House Stakes (Newmarket, 2 May).
Trends: 8/10 winners came from a Group 2 or Group 3 prep run within 8 weeks; 6/10 trained at one of the season's top 5 yards (Coolmore, Godolphin, Burke, Ryan, Beckett).
Sandringham Stakes (Handicap, 3:40pm) β fillies' Britannia equivalent
3yo fillies' handicap mile β the female version of Thursday's Britannia. High draws favoured at the straight mile; William Haggas + John Gosden dominate.
Coronation Stakes (G1, 4:20pm) β 3yo fillies' miler championship
The day's centrepiece. 1 mile Group 1 for 3yo fillies β the Royal Ascot Guineas-form-line tester for the fillies' division. 2025 winner: Cercene (Joseph Murphy / Gary Carroll, 33/1) β Irish-trained outsider held off Zarigana in a memorable upset.
The 2026 race is now a Coolmore rematch after the Curragh weekend reshaped the fillies' Classic order.
Sunday 24 May β Irish 1000 Guineas result: Precise (Wayne Lordan, 7/4F) beat True Love (Ryan Moore) by 2Β½L β a 7Β½L Newmarket form-line reversal in 21 days. Per Racing Post: "The market and Ryan Moore get it wrong as 'serious filly' Precise proves too good." See our Irish 1000 Guineas 2026 Result.
The Royal Ascot Coronation Stakes ladder post-Curragh:
- Precise (A O'Brien / Lordan, 6/4-2/1F) β the Irish 1000G winner, now the named Coolmore lead. Won at Newmarket-favourite class after the fever-scare narrative resolved.
- True Love (A O'Brien / Moore, 5/2-3/1) β Newmarket 1000G winner; the Moore-Lordan jockey-choice story is the editorial subplot.
- Evolutionist (K Burke / Foley, 5/1-6/1 each-way) β Newmarket 1000G 2nd; the chief non-Coolmore challenger.
- Venetian Lace (A O'Brien) + Charlie Appleby filly TBC complete the supporting cast.
The Coronation Stakes is the Coolmore one-two rematch. Whichever filly Ryan Moore picks at the 48-hour declarations stage (Wednesday 17 June) is the strongest single signal of Coolmore's read on the Curragh form.
Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap, 5:00pm)
1m4f handicap for older horses β the staying-handicap version of the Britannia, often a value-pick race. Andrew Balding + William Haggas dominate.
Hardwicke Stakes (G2, 5:35pm) β older middle-distance championship
Group 2 over 1m4f for older horses β typically the Royal Ascot test of horses one rung below the Prince of Wales's class. 2025 winner: Rebel's Romance (Charlie Appleby) β a dual-purpose 12-furlong G2 win.
The 2026 storyline: Coolmore typically run an older-horse here; Appleby's defending angle with Rebel's Romance is the headline (the 2025 winner is also the 2025 Yorkshire Cup winner). See our Huxley Stakes 2026 preview for the related Chester form line.
Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes (Handicap, 6:10pm)
The Friday closer β 5f handicap, large field, often a wide-open value-pick race for the closing day-bet.
Friday's betting angles
The Coronation Stakes β Coolmore lay or back the rematch
The True Love angle is the strongest single bet of the day β but the price is short. After the Newmarket result and the Curragh prep, expect 5/4 to 6/4 True Love at Royal Ascot if she runs (Aidan O'Brien explicitly named the route post-race).
The case for the rematch back-bet:
- True Love is on a clear three-race summer programme: Newmarket-Curragh-Ascot
- Wayne Lordan retains; Coolmore's filly division depth is unmatched in 2026
- The 1000G fitness gap (2-month temperature setback on Precise) doesn't apply to True Love
The case for the lay/oppose:
- The 1000G winner has been beaten in the Coronation Stakes plenty of times historically
- 5/4 - 6/4 is short value
- Evolutionist (Karl Burke) β 1000G 2nd at 1ΒΎL β is the 9/2-5/1 each-way value pick at the Royal Ascot rematch
The Commonwealth Cup β Sandy Lane form line is gold
8/10 winners came from a Group 2 or Group 3 prep run within 8 weeks β wait for the Sandown Sandy Lane Stakes (23 May) and the Newmarket Palace House Stakes (2 May) results before pricing this race. The form line carrier from the late-May Group 2 trials is usually the right pre-race favourite.
The Sandringham + Britannia parallel β high draws
Both the Sandringham Stakes (Friday) and the Britannia Stakes (Thursday) are 3yo handicap miles on the straight course. High draws are favoured (same as the Royal Hunt Cup). Wait for the draw β placed Friday morning β before betting.
The Hardwicke Stakes β Rebel's Romance defending
2025 winner Rebel's Romance (Appleby) is the defending champion at age 7yo. Minnie Hauk targets the Tattersalls Gold Cup (Sun 24 May) and Prince of Wales's (Wed 17 June), NOT the Hardwicke. Expect Appleby's defender at 5/2 or 3/1 with a Coolmore-trained 4-5yo middle-distance horse in support β typically a Continuous-shaped name with 1m4f form.
The Hardwicke is a value-pick Group 2 β wait for the 5-day declarations on Saturday 13 June for the final field shape before pricing.

Responsible note
Friday is the busiest betting day of the meeting after Wednesday β two Group 1s plus two big handicaps. Pace yourself β Saturday's Diamond Jubilee still to come. Bet only money you can afford to lose, set deposit limits. BeGambleAware.org.
For our broader take on data-driven racing analysis, see we built an AI horse racing model and its published track record β every rated race reconciled at SP, losses included.
