Looking for the current Royal Ascot Week?
Our live guide has 2026+ racetimes, TV coverage and runners as they're confirmed.
See the Royal Ascot Week live hubTuesday 16 June 2026 β opening day of Royal Ascot. First race 2:30pm, last race 6:10pm. Seven-race card on ITV1 / ITVX from approximately 1:30pm; the Royal Procession at 1:55-2:00pm.
The opening day is the most front-loaded card of the meeting β three of the festival's eight Group 1s are run on Tuesday alone:
- Queen Anne Stakes (G1, 1m, 2:30pm) β older horses, the season's best older miler
- King Charles III Stakes (G1, 5f, 3:40pm) β older sprinters, the 5f sprint championship of the British season
- St James's Palace Stakes (G1, 1m, 4:20pm) β 3yo colts' miler, the Royal Ascot equivalent of the Newmarket 2000 Guineas form-line
The 2026 storyline crystallised over 2-16 May. Notable Speech (Appleby / Buick) won the Lockinge at 2/1F on Saturday 16 May for his 5th career G1 β now the Queen Anne 2/1F favourite for Tuesday's opener. Bow Echo (G Boughey / Loughnane) is Saturday 2 May's 2000 Guineas winner (see our 2000 Guineas result piece) and the named SJP target. The Boughey/Loughnane combination -- both Star Sports ambassadors -- carries the most-coverage SJP narrative.
This piece covers the race-by-race breakdown of Tuesday's card, the key betting angles, and how to watch.

Queen Anne Stakes (G1, 2:30pm) β older miler championship
The opener is the season's most prestigious older-miler Group 1. 2025 winner: Docklands (Harry Eustace / Mark Zahra, 14/1) β held off Rosallion by a nose in a photo finish with Cairo 3rd and Notable Speech 4th. 2024 winner: Charyn (Roger Varian, 100/30F).
The 2026 storyline is Notable-Speech-led. The Appleby/Buick 5-time G1 winner took the Lockinge Stakes on 16 May and is the 6/4 Queen Anne favourite off that win. Stablemate Opera Ballo (3/1, Bet365 Mile winner at Sandown) is the second market force, and More Thunder (7/2) re-opposes having chased Notable Speech home at Newbury. Defending champion Docklands (6/1) is the each-way pick. The field is confirmed at 10 at the 5-day stage β neither Rosallion nor Field Of Gold features. See the Notable Speech vs Docklands head-to-head.
Trends: of the last 10 winners, 9 came from the top 3 in the betting; 7 of the last 10 winners aged 5+; market-faithful pattern.
Coventry Stakes (G2, 3:05pm) β marquee 2yo colts' juvenile
The first juvenile Group race of the meeting, 6 furlongs, the season's first big test of the new generation. Coolmore typically run 2-3 horses; Charlie Appleby has won the race three times in five years. The form line points strongly to the Champagne Stakes (Doncaster, September) and the Dewhurst (Newmarket, October).
King Charles III Stakes (G1, 3:40pm) β older sprinters' 5f championship
Renamed from the King's Stand Stakes in 2023 to honour King Charles (announced for his 75th birthday). 5 furlongs, older sprinters, the first 5f Group 1 of the British calendar each year. 2025 winner: American Affair (Jim Goldie / Paul Mulrennan) β a popular northern victory. 2024 winner: Asfoora (Henry Dwyer / Oisin Murphy) β the Australian raid.
The 2026 market (27 confirmed at the 5-day stage) is headed by Overpass (Bjorn Baker, 7/4), with Night Raider (K R Burke, 5/1) and the French raider Rayevka (F-H Graffard, 11/2) next. Big Mojo (Michael Appleby, 2025 Haydock Sprint Cup winner) and defending champion Asfoora (Henry Dwyer) are both among the field.
St James's Palace Stakes (G1, 4:20pm) β 3yo colts' miler championship
The Royal Ascot equivalent of the Newmarket 2000 Guineas form-line tester. 1 mile, 3yo colts only, often the most-anticipated Group 1 of the meeting on opening day.
The 2026 race is shaped around Bow Echo -- George Boughey's 2000 Guineas winner from Saturday 2 May. Bow Echo:
- Won the 2000 Guineas at 9/2 SP (Saturday 2 May)
- Pre-race trends scorecard had him at 3.5/5
- Race shape: he sat midfield, came clear from the Dip, dispatched Gstaad by 2 3/4 L
- Will likely be a short-priced favourite for the SJP
- Boughey explicitly named the SJP route post-race; Loughnane retains the ride
Coolmore's role at the SJP is now confirmed: Gstaad won the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh on Sat 23 May by 3L at 4/11F, and per Irish Times Coolmore have the SJP rematch with Bow Echo "in their sights". Ryan Moore retained for both Coolmore Royal Ascot targets. See the full Irish 2000 Guineas 2026 Result.
Recent winners: Rosallion (R Hannon / Sean Levey) 2024 (3-time G1 winner: 2023 Lagardere + 2024 Irish 2000G + 2024 SJP); Field Of Gold (J & T Gosden / Colin Keane) 2025 (2-time G1 winner: 2025 Irish 2000G + 2025 SJP). For 2026, Bow Echo is the confirmed 4/5 favourite, with Gstaad the 11/4 oppose and French 2000G winner Rayif (Graffard, 8/1) the each-way trends-fit. Distant Storm β third at Newmarket, second in the Irish Guineas β was not declared.
Ascot Stakes (Heritage Handicap, 5:00pm) β staying handicap championship
2m4f Heritage Handicap -- the staying handicap championship of the meeting. A Cesarewitch / Northumberland Plate / Chester Cup pointer. Big-field race, course-and-distance form is gold.
Wolferton Stakes (Listed, 5:35pm) β older middle-distance
Listed conditions race for older middle-distance horses; usually a value-pick race.
Copper Horse Stakes (Handicap, 6:10pm) β closer
The Tuesday card's traditional closer β handicap, lightly-raced 4yo+ types, often a value-pick to close the day.
Tuesday's betting angles
The Queen Anne Stakes β market-faithful, Notable Speech 6/4F
The opener is one of the most market-faithful Group 1s of the meeting. 9 of last 10 winners came from the top 3 in the betting; 7 of the last 10 aged 5+. Bet the form, not the value β the favourite has won this race more often than any other Royal Ascot Group 1 in recent decades.
The 2026 Queen Anne is Notable-Speech-led. The 5yo Lockinge winner is the trends-cleanest profile available β 5-time G1 winner, Appleby retained, Buick retained, Lockinge-to-Queen-Anne is one of the most reliable older-miler pipelines. Win-only at 6/4 is short value; Docklands at 6/1 each-way is the structural defender-value play, and More Thunder (Haggas) at 7/2 is the Lockinge-2nd alternative. Watch stablemate Opera Ballo (3/1), the second favourite on the confirmed field.
The St James's Palace Stakes β Bow Echo angle
The big betting opportunity will be how short Bow Echo goes off. Saturday's 2000 Guineas winner is the most-talked-about colt of the spring; the Boughey/Loughnane Star Sports ambassador angle drives sentiment in the racing-press, and the SJP is his named target.
Confirmed market: Bow Echo is the 4/5 favourite at the 5-day stage, with Gstaad (11/4) the obvious oppose and French 2000G winner Rayif (8/1) the each-way trends-fit. Win-only at 4/5 is short value; the each-way play is Rayif at a price, or take a view on Gstaad reversing the head-to-head.
The Star Sports angle: Boughey is their ambassador trainer; Loughnane is the stable jockey. Expect curated Star Boosts on Bow Echo on race-day morning [editor verify on @StarSports_Bet]. See our Star Sports review and the Star Sports Royal Ascot 2026 offers piece.
The Ascot Stakes β value-pick
The 2m4f Heritage Handicap is one of the value-pick races of the meeting. Course-and-distance form line is gold; dual-purpose horses (Flat / Hurdles) dominate the recent winners. Look for entries from Joseph O'Brien, Willie Mullins, A J Martin and the staying-handicap specialists.
