The 2026 edition has been run. Next: Dante Festival, York 2027, Wednesday 12 to Friday 14 May 2027.
Dante Festival, YorkFriday 15 May 2026, 16:05 BST. York Racecourse. Boodles Yorkshire Cup Stakes, Group 2, 1m5f188y, 4yo+.
This race has been run. See the Yorkshire Cup 2026 Result for the finishing order and starting prices. What follows is kept as it was written before the race, so anything it lists as not confirmed was still open when it was written and was not revisited afterwards.
🏁 RESULT (15 May 2026): Rahiebb (R Varian / Ray Dawson, 4/1) won: 8/13F Amiloc (Beckett / Rossa Ryan) flopped to 6th in the biggest favourite-flop of the festival until Rosallion the following day. Rahiebb is now 7/1 each-way for the Royal Ascot Gold Cup (Yorkshire Cup → Gold Cup pipeline). Full race report: Yorkshire Cup 2026 Result.
Race-day update (Fri 15 May, race in ~5.5 hrs). Amiloc firmed to 6/4F overnight -- the Beckett yard's strongest backing of the spring. Final 7-runner field: Amiloc (R Beckett / Rossa Ryan, 6/4F), Rahiebb (R Varian / R Dawson, 7/2), Epic Poet (D O'Meara / D Tudhope, 5/1) -- 2025 Yorkshire Cup 2nd returning -- Furthur (A Balding / W Buick, 11/2), Al Nayyir (T Clover / J Doyle, 13/2), Tarriance (A Balding / Colin Keane, 25/1), Deira Mile (J Bedi / C Hardie, 50/1). Off-time 16:05 BST, live on Racing TV. Going: Good.
Race-day read. Amiloc's compression from 13/8F (Wed) to 6/4F (race-day) reflects strong yard money for the Beckett lightly raced 5yo. The trends-cleanest profile remains Amiloc 3/5 trends -- top yard, top of betting, age 5. Each-way value is Epic Poet at 5/1 with the 2025 Yorkshire Cup 2nd-place form line at the course-and-distance under the same jockey (Daniel Tudhope). The Balding 2-handed read is now arguably weakened: Furthur at 11/2 (Buick) is the bullet; Tarriance has drifted to 25/1.
Day 2 (Thursday 14 May) result context. Item won the Dante at 11/2 (Balding's second Dante in four years after The Foxes 2023); See The Fire went back-to-back in the Middleton (5/6F). Balding has had a remarkable Dante Festival -- a yard signal worth respecting at Furthur's 11/2 each-way price today.
The Boodles Yorkshire Cup is the second leg of the British Champions Long Distance Series and the most-watched Gold Cup pipeline race of the spring. Scandinavia (Aidan O'Brien / Ryan Moore), 2025 St Leger and Goodwood Cup winner, is the 3/1 ante-post favourite (Sky Bet via Sporting Life) and looks the marquee runner of the festival's closing day.
The 2026 staying division is a transformed landscape. Kyprios is retired (Coolmore America, late 2025). Eldar Eldarov has no visible 2026 form line. Rebel's Romance is targeted at the King George VI & QEII Stakes via the QEII rather than the Gold Cup. Trawlerman is the defending Gold Cup champion and is targeted at this race directly via a Royal Ascot prep route per Gosden's stable communications.
The market leaders (consolidated industry market via At The Races, Sky Bet via Sporting Life racecard 2/5/26):
- Scandinavia (3/1) -- A O'Brien / R Moore, 5yo Justify colt
- Rahiebb (4/1) -- Roger Varian, OR 115, consistent place form ending 2025
- Amiloc (9/2) -- Ralph Beckett, OR 116, lightly raced 5yo
- Illinois (9/2) -- A O'Brien, 2025 G1 Ormonde Stakes winner
- Ethical Diamond (5/1) -- Willie Mullins, OR 121, 2025 Breeders' Cup Turf winner
- Sweet William (8/1) -- J & T Gosden, 2026 Sagaro winner
- Epic Poet (14/1) -- David O'Meara, 2025 Yorkshire Cup runner-up
Scandinavia was the clear pre-race favourite by Group 1 form line -- 2025 Goodwood Cup + 2025 St Leger doubles set the staying-pipeline expectation since the Stradivarius era (Stradivarius won the Yorkshire Cup in 2018, 2019 and 2022). Scandinavia withdrew before the race-day stage, and Rahiebb (R Varian) won at 4/1.
This piece covers the named field, the trends scorecard verdict, and the tips and where-to-bet picture.

The 7-runner declared field (per Racing Post racecard, 13 May)
The 30-entry 5-day list narrowed substantially at the 48-hour stage on Wednesday 13 May. Both pre-meeting ante-post favourites withdrew: Scandinavia (A O'Brien / Ryan Moore) -- the 3/1 ante-post favourite and 2025 St Leger + Goodwood Cup winner -- did NOT declare; Sweet William (J & T Gosden) -- the 7/2 each-way pick and 2026 Sagaro winner -- is also absent. The final 7 runners are all UK-trained; there is no Coolmore representation in the 2026 Yorkshire Cup, an unusual editorial absence.

The new favourite -- Amiloc (13/8F, Ralph Beckett)
Ralph Beckett's lightly raced 5yo is the trends-cleanest profile in the post-declaration field. OR 116, top-staying-yard (Beckett's Andover stable is one of the in-form staying operations of 2026), top of the 7-runner betting. Rossa Ryan retains the ride -- the Beckett stable jockey who has partnered the horse to his Group 3 form-line in 2026.
The Beckett Gold Cup pipeline angle. Beckett has had multiple Yorkshire Cup placers in recent renewals; Amiloc fits the same form-line profile -- a 4yo or 5yo with developing staying credentials moving toward the Gold Cup in June. At 13/8F he's the trends-aligned market favourite.
The proven 5/5 record stayer -- Rahiebb (3/1, Roger Varian)
Varian's 5yo Rahiebb has OR 115 and consistent place form through late 2025 -- 2nd to Scandinavia in the Doncaster St Leger build-up. Robert Dawson is booked -- the apprentice / claiming rider whose 3lb claim is notable on the 5-runner-or-fewer staying market.
Rahiebb's Group-1 form gap. The honest reservation: no Group 1 placing on CV. At 3/1 with no G1 form, this is the price expressing experience-at-the-trip rather than top-class credentials. Each-way value depends on whether 3/1 represents the trip-experienced second-favourite or whether the Beckett favourite is the right second-string.
The 2025 runner-up returning -- Epic Poet (5/1, David O'Meara)
Daniel Tudhope is back on board for the 2025 Yorkshire Cup runner-up. Epic Poet finished 2nd to Rebel's Romance (Appleby) in the 2025 Yorkshire Cup by a short head in a blanket finish -- the strongest piece of single-form-line evidence in the 2026 field, even though the winner (Rebel's Romance) won't run again.
O'Meara's Yorkshire local angle. David O'Meara's stable is at Habton Grange near Malton -- the trainer-local-to-York pattern is well-documented. Tudhope's ride on Epic Poet pre-race in 2025 was patient and well-timed; the 2026 race shape favours similar tactics.
The Balding 2-handed read -- Furthur + Tarriance
Andrew Balding's stable is double-handed with Furthur (11/2) and Tarriance (price not confirmed). The William Buick / Furthur combination is the senior pilot pick -- expect Furthur to be the bullet; Tarriance under Colin Keane the stable second-string. The 2-handed read suggests Balding rates Furthur the more credible Yorkshire Cup chance; Tarriance the each-way long-shot.
The supporting cast -- Al Nayyir + Deira Mile
Al Nayyir (Tom Clover / J Doyle) is the 7/1 outsider; OR 110 puts him at the bottom of the merit ratings but he runs from stall 1. Deira Mile (Jamie Bedi / C Hardie) is the smaller-stable runner from stall 6 -- price-driven outsider speculation only.
The two big withdrawals
- Scandinavia (A O'Brien / Ryan Moore) -- the 3/1 ante-post favourite did NOT declare at the 48-hour stage. The Coolmore stayer is being saved for the Saval Beg (Leopardstown, 23 May) as a softer prep before the Gold Cup. Ryan Moore had been the headline retained ride -- O'Brien instead chose to keep Scandinavia fresh.
- Sweet William (J & T Gosden) -- the 7/2 each-way pick and 2026 Sagaro winner is going direct to the Gold Cup without a Yorkshire Cup prep. Gosden's plan with the 7yo is rest-then-Royal-Ascot.

Trends scorecard for the 2026 Yorkshire Cup
The Yorkshire Cup is the second-leg of the British Champions Long Distance Series and the most-followed Gold Cup pipeline race of the spring. Five trends decide most renewals. The 2026 field is unusual: both pre-meeting ante-post favourites (Scandinavia + Sweet William) withdrew at the 48-hour stage, leaving a 7-runner UK-only field led by Beckett's Amiloc at 13/8F.
The five trends
- Group 1 form on CV at 1m6f-2m4f. 8/10 last winners had at least one Group 1 placing or win at staying distances. The pure-handicap-graduate path is rare.
- Trained at one of the leading staying yards (Coolmore/Ballydoyle, Gosden, Stoute-retired, Appleby, Burrows, Beckett, Mullins). 9/10 of last winners came from this set.
- Top 3 in betting. 8/10 of last winners came from top 3 in betting, a market-faithful pattern.
- Aged 5+. 7/10 of last winners aged 5 or older. The Yorkshire Cup rewards experience.
- Sagaro Stakes (Ascot, 1 May, G3, 2m) form line. 5/10 of the last 10 Yorkshire Cup winners had Sagaro form within 14 days.
The scorecard (top 4 of the 7-runner field)
| Trend | Amiloc (13/8F) | Rahiebb (3/1) | Epic Poet (5/1) | Furthur (11/2) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. G1 form at 1m6f-2m4f | No (Group 3 form ceiling) | No (G1 placing not on CV) | Borderline (2025 Yorkshire Cup G2 2nd) | No (developing) |
| 2. Top staying yard | Yes (Beckett) | Yes (Varian) | Yes (O'Meara – local) | Yes (Balding) |
| 3. Top 3 in betting | Yes (favourite) | Yes (2nd fav) | Yes (3rd fav) | Borderline (4th) |
| 4. Aged 5+ | Yes (5) | Yes (5) | Yes (5+) | not confirmed |
| 5. Sagaro form line | No | No | No | No |
| Confirmed passing | 3/5 | 3/5 | 3.5/5 | 2.5/5 |
Reading the scorecard:
- The 2026 Yorkshire Cup is the most trends-light renewal in recent vintage. With Scandinavia (would have been 4/5) and Sweet William (3.5/5) both out, no horse in the declared field scores higher than 3.5/5, a clear drop from the trends-aligned 4/5+ patterns of recent winners.
- Amiloc (13/8F) ticks 3/5: top yard, top of betting, age 5. The Group 1 form gap is the formal trend miss, but in the 2026 field there is no available G1-form-on-CV runner. As the trends-cleanest available profile, Amiloc is the market-aligned favourite.
- Epic Poet (5/1) ticks the cleanest 3.5/5: the 2025 Yorkshire Cup runner-up returning under the same jockey (Tudhope). The G2-placing-at-the-trip form line is the strongest in the field; Epic Poet at 5/1 is the each-way trends value pick.
- Rahiebb (3/1) ticks 3/5, but the 3/1 second-favourite price expresses trip-experience rather than G1 credentials. No-G1-form is the same gap as Amiloc carries; at 3/1 it's the worse-priced of the two.
- Furthur (11/2), the Balding bullet: 2.5/5 with unknowns leaves him as a price-driven each-way pick rather than a trends-clean profile.
The Coolmore + Ascot framing: absent in 2026
In 2026 the race runs without a Coolmore representative. Scandinavia went to the Saval Beg instead, and Sweet William goes straight to the Gold Cup.
For 2026, the Yorkshire Cup → Gold Cup pipeline is broken. Trawlerman defends Royal Ascot off Gosden's direct route. Scandinavia targets the Gold Cup via Saval Beg. The 2026 Yorkshire Cup is a Group 2 in its own right rather than a Gold Cup trial, a notable editorial shift.
Recent winners (per Wikipedia Yorkshire Cup archive)
| Year | Winner | Trainer | Age | Jockey |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 | Stradivarius | J Gosden | 4 | F Dettori |
| 2019 | Stradivarius | J Gosden | 5 | F Dettori |
| 2020 | (no race, COVID pandemic) | – | – | – |
| 2021 | Spanish Mission | A Balding | 5 | W Buick |
| 2022 | Stradivarius | J & T Gosden | 8 | F Dettori |
| 2023 | Giavellotto | M Botti | 4 | A Atzeni |
| 2024 | Giavellotto | M Botti | 5 | O Murphy |
| 2025 | Rebel's Romance | C Appleby | 7 | W Buick |
The pattern is two-fold. First, the multiple-winner pattern: Stradivarius won three times (2018, 2019, 2022) and Giavellotto won back-to-back (2023, 2024). Yorkshire Cup winners often defend. Second, the Stradivarius Gold Cup link: Stradivarius converted his 2018 and 2019 Yorkshire Cup form lines into Royal Ascot Gold Cup wins (also 2018, 2019, and 2020, a Gold Cup treble). More recently the "Yorkshire Cup → Gold Cup pipeline" is weaker: Giavellotto did not win the Gold Cup in either year, Rebel's Romance (2025 winner) is bypassing the Gold Cup in 2026, and 2025 Gold Cup winner Trawlerman did not use the Yorkshire Cup as prep.
Tips and where to bet
Win: Amiloc (13/8F) (R Beckett / Rossa Ryan). 3/5 trends: the trends-cleanest profile in the available field. Beckett yard is in form, age 5, top of the betting. At 13/8F, the price is right: not value, but the trends-aligned favourite.
Each-way: Epic Poet (5/1) (D O'Meara / D Tudhope). 3.5/5 trends: the cleanest trends profile in the field. 2025 Yorkshire Cup 2nd over course and distance; Tudhope retains the ride; O'Meara's local-stable angle adds editorial conviction. 5/1 with 1/4 odds at 3 places returns place value if Amiloc wins as expected.
Lay/oppose: Rahiebb at 3/1. Same trend score as Amiloc but at a much shorter price than the form warrants. The 3/1 second-favourite expresses trip-experience rather than top-class credentials; lay at any price under 7/2.
Sentiment watch: The Balding 2-handed read. If Furthur (William Buick) shortens significantly inside the final 2 hours, the Balding yard signal is worth noting. If both Furthur + Tarriance drift, the yard sent them as supplementary entries rather than bullets.
Specialist racing operator: Star Sports. Star Sports has racecourse pitches at York for the Dante Festival including the Yorkshire Cup. Star Sports withdrew Best Odds Guaranteed in December 2024; value at the firm now comes through curated Star Boosts + the on-course presence. Welcome offer: BET40GET20. See our Star Sports review.

Responsible note
This piece is a transparent application of the trends-scorecard format to the named field. It is not a guarantee of profit. As we've documented in our in-house AI horse racing model write-up, no model or trend system reliably beats efficient bookmaker prices. The 2026 Yorkshire Cup is the most trends-light renewal in recent memory: with both ante-post favourites out, no horse in the field scores higher than 3.5/5 trends. Each-way value is more limited than usual; the favourite Amiloc is the right place to start but not value at 13/8F. Bet only money you can afford to lose, set limits, BeGambleAware.org.
