Friday 15 May 2026, 16:05 BST. York Racecourse. Boodles Yorkshire Cup Stakes, Group 2, 1m5f188y, 4yo+. Going: Good. Winning time: 3m 00.70s. 7 runners.
Rahiebb (4/1, Roger Varian / Ray Dawson) won the 2026 Yorkshire Cup with a smooth ride from off the pace, beating Tom Clover's Al Nayyir (11/1, James Doyle) by 2¼ lengths. The well-fancied Amiloc (8/13F, Ralph Beckett / Rossa Ryan) flopped to 6th in one of the biggest shocks of the spring -- the odds-on favourite was beaten over 7 lengths. Rahiebb is now 7/1 for the Royal Ascot Gold Cup, cut from 12/1 with most major firms.
Result top 5:
- 1st Rahiebb (4/1) -- R Varian / Ray Dawson
- 2nd Al Nayyir (11/1) -- T Clover / James Doyle -- 2¼L
- 3rd Epic Poet (11/1) -- D O'Meara / Daniel Tudhope -- nose
- 4th Furthur (11/1) -- A Balding / William Buick -- 5L
- 5th Tarriance (25/1) -- A Balding / Colin Keane -- nose
6th: Amiloc (8/13F) beaten 3¼ lengths into 6th -- a shock performance from the odds-on favourite who had firmed from 13/8F (Wed) to 6/4F (Fri morning) to 8/13F at the off. 7th: Deira Mile (100/1).
Race shape: Al Nayyir set the pace under James Doyle from stall 1, with Rahiebb tracked towards the rear under Ray Dawson. Dawson asked for the effort 3 furlongs out, swept through the field at the 2-furlong pole, and Rahiebb kept on strongly to score by 2¼L. Al Nayyir held on for a stout 2nd at 11/1; Epic Poet (the 2025 runner-up) closed late for a 3rd-place finish by a nose.
The shock: Amiloc's 8/13F status was the biggest sustained yard-money push of the Dante Festival, but Beckett's lightly raced 5yo was beaten well over 7 lengths. The Beckett-Rossa Ryan team had no explanation at the time of writing; a routine vet check followed.
Editorial reset. Our Yorkshire Cup 2026 preview had Rahiebb at 3/5 trends and identified Amiloc as the trends-cleanest favourite at 13/8F. Rahiebb at 4/1 was the better trends-aligned value pick than the deeply backed favourite.
For the post-race Royal Ascot Gold Cup implications see our Royal Ascot Thursday 2026 preview -- Rahiebb's 7/1 Gold Cup price is the meaningful market move.

Winning time: 3m 00.70s. Going: Good.
The winning ride -- Rahiebb (4/1, Ray Dawson)
Ray Dawson rode a textbook patient ride in his first year as first jockey to Roger Varian. Rahiebb was held up towards the rear under Dawson, with Al Nayyir setting a steady gallop up front. Dawson asked for the effort 3 furlongs out, swept through the field at the 2-furlong pole, and Rahiebb kept on strongly to win going away.
Ray Dawson post-race [Racing Post]: "It's my first year riding as first jockey to Roger. I knew turning in I was going well, I just didn't want to get there too early. He galloped out well."
Roger Varian post-race [Racing Post]: "That was lovely to watch. He was very smooth. He's a lovely horse... He's a magnificent specimen, a gorgeous horse."
Rahiebb's background: a 5yo who was 2nd to Gold Cup favourite Scandinavia in the Doncaster Classic last season. First victory since his maiden in March 2025. The Varian yard's developing-stayer angle has delivered a Group 2 win and a Royal Ascot Gold Cup ticket.
The runner-up -- Al Nayyir (11/1)
Tom Clover's 5yo Al Nayyir ran a fine race in 2nd under James Doyle, leading the field through the early stages and only being passed in the closing stages. At 11/1 the longshot from the favourite-on-the-day-flopping pattern delivered. Al Nayyir is now firmly in the staying division's emerging picture.
Epic Poet (3rd, 11/1) -- the 2025 runner-up returning
David O'Meara's local Yorkshire hope Epic Poet finished a solid 3rd under Daniel Tudhope, beaten a nose by Al Nayyir. O'Meara post-race [Racing Post]: "It's another great run by him in the race... I've no complaints, though and I think he's back to his best."
Epic Poet's Yorkshire Cup record: 2nd in 2025 to Rebel's Romance; 3rd in 2026 to Rahiebb. A reliable Yorkshire Cup form-line carrier; not quite quick enough to win, but a respectable place-only profile.
The shock -- Amiloc (8/13F) beaten 7L+ to 6th
Ralph Beckett's lightly raced 5yo was the most heavily backed Yorkshire Cup favourite in years — firming from a 13/8F at the 48-hour stage to 8/13F at the off. The 5yo finished 6th of 7, beaten over 7 lengths total — a complete flop. Rossa Ryan had no obvious excuse; Beckett's team noted post-race that a routine vet check followed with no abnormalities reported.
This is the kind of result that hurts layer books at the highest level. The Beckett yard's lightly-raced-staying-horses pipeline takes a meaningful hit on the day.
The Balding 2-handed flop
Furthur (William Buick) 4th of 7, Tarriance (Colin Keane) 5th of 7 -- the Balding stable's dual-Group-2-day-on-Thursday momentum did NOT carry into the Yorkshire Cup. Both Balding runners finished outside the frame; the yard's Dante Festival staying division read as flat compared to the Dante (Item) + Middleton (See The Fire) wins.
Going and ground
The 3m 00.70s winning time on Good ground was a fair Group 2 1m5f188y effort, indicating the race ran true to form. No going-related excuses for any of the placed horses.

What it means for the Royal Ascot Gold Cup (Thursday 18 June)
The Yorkshire Cup is historically the most reliable Gold Cup pipeline race of the spring. Friday's result reshapes the 2026 Gold Cup market.
Rahiebb -- 7/1 Royal Ascot Gold Cup contender
Rahiebb has been cut from 12/1 to 7/1 with Coral / Bet365 / William Hill for the 18 June Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. The Yorkshire Cup → Gold Cup pipeline is the strongest single-trial form-line for stayers, and Rahiebb's 2¼L win against Al Nayyir gives him meaningful credentials.
The 2026 Gold Cup market post-Yorkshire Cup:
| Position | Horse | Trainer | Best price | Source race / form line |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Scandinavia | A O'Brien | 2/1F | 2025 St Leger + Goodwood Cup winner; Saval Beg target 23 May |
| 2 | Trawlerman | J & T Gosden | 10/3 | Defending Gold Cup champion (2025 winner) |
| 3 | Sweet William | J & T Gosden | 13/2 | 2026 Sagaro winner |
| 4 | Rahiebb | R Varian | 7/1 | Yorkshire Cup winner Fri 15 May |
| 5 | Al Nayyir | T Clover | 16/1 | Yorkshire Cup 2nd |
| 6 | Epic Poet | D O'Meara | 25/1 | Yorkshire Cup 3rd (also 2025 Y Cup 2nd to Rebel's Romance) |
[Source: Racing Post / Coral / Bet365 consolidated industry market, 16 May 2026]
Scandinavia heads the market at 2/1 with Trawlerman second-favourite at 10/3. Rahiebb at 7/1 has the cleanest Yorkshire-Cup-trial form line of any of the non-favourites.
Amiloc's flop -- what it means
Ralph Beckett's 8/13F flop into 6th is a meaningful editorial loss for the yard. The reasons:
- The Beckett yard's developing-staying pipeline had been a strong commercial story
- Amiloc's 8/13F push was the biggest sustained yard-money in years
- The 6th-place performance kills his Royal Ascot Gold Cup ante-post (was 9/2 Coral; now drifting toward 16/1+)
Watch the Beckett yard plan post-Yorkshire Cup. Either:
- Amiloc had an off-day and will be running again at Goodwood / York / Royal Ascot
- Or there's a deeper issue (vet check clean per yard, but watch for next-time-out caution)
Royal Ascot Gold Cup pipeline 2026 -- reshaped
Scandinavia heads the Gold Cup market at 2/1F with defending champion Trawlerman second-favourite at 10/3. For the each-way value pick, Rahiebb at 7/1 with 1/4 odds at 4 places gives meaningful place-only return if either of the front-rank pair wins.

The 2026 Royal Ascot Gold Cup market is open at all named UK firms with Best Odds Guaranteed (Bet365, Coral, William Hill, Paddy Power, Sky Bet, Betfred) and Non-Runner-No-Bet from the 5-day declaration stage. Each-way terms at the major firms pay 1/4 odds at 4 places.

What's next for Rahiebb
Rahiebb is now firmly on the Royal Ascot Gold Cup route — the Varian stable will give him 4 weeks to recover before the 18 June championship. Ray Dawson retains the ride.
The Gold Cup field will firm up after the Saval Beg (Leopardstown, 23 May, G3) which Scandinavia targets, the Coronation Cup (Epsom, 5 June) which has Trawlerman or Sweet William alternatives, and the 2-mile prep route. Rahiebb's clear Yorkshire Cup form line is the strongest piece of CV among the British-trained Gold Cup contenders.
