Charlie Hall Chase 2026
The Charlie Hall Chase is one of the first big staying chases of the British jumps season. It is run at Wetherby in October/November, early enough that many of its runners are making their first appearance of the winter.
For 2026 the race is scheduled for Saturday 31 October 2026. The off time, the going and the declared runners are confirmed in race week, and this page adds the off time and going as they are published.
At a glance
- Course: Wetherby, West Yorkshire
- Grade: Grade 2
- Distance: 3m 45y, nineteen fences
- Age: 5yo+
- First run: 1969, as the Wetherby Pattern Chase
- Sponsor: bet365
The race is named in memory of the Yorkshire jumps trainer W.A. "Charlie" Hall. Fields are small, so every runner tends to be a serious one, and the ground at Wetherby at the turn of October and November has ranged from good to heavy.
Below: the 2026 details, the last ten winners with the trends behind them, how to watch, and the day out. For the race's full background, our Charlie Hall Chase course guide has the history, and the Wetherby course guide covers the track.

The Charlie Hall is the feature race of Wetherby's two-day Charlie Hall meeting. Final declarations are made two days before the race, and the off time and going above update once Wetherby publishes them.
Where the race fits
The Charlie Hall comes early in the season, so many runners are having their first run since the spring. Some trainers send a horse here fully fit, while others use it as a first run before a bigger target later in the winter. A good run behind a fit rival can be worth more than it looks on the result.
In between comes Cheltenham's November Meeting, built around the Paddy Power Gold Cup. The next big staying chases after it are the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November and the King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day. Every big race between now and January is listed, soonest first, on our festivals and big races board.
On race morning the AI race predictor publishes its ratings and fair prices for every British race, the Charlie Hall included.

How to watch and where to bet
The television listing and the off time are confirmed in race week, when the declarations are out. This page shows the off time above as soon as it is published.
If you are at the course, Wetherby has on-course bookmakers and Tote betting. If you are betting online, two things matter more than the welcome offer:
- Best odds guaranteed. Early prices on a small-field chase can drift as the market forms, and a BOG bookmaker pays the starting price if it is bigger than the price you took. Our best BOG bookmakers page lists who offers it on Saturday racing.
- Free bets and their terms. Read the minimum odds and the expiry before you claim one. Our free bet offers page compares them side by side.

Raceday at Wetherby
Raceday at Wetherby
Charlie Hall day is the biggest day of the year at Wetherby, so book tickets ahead and expect a bigger crowd than a normal jumps fixture. The weather at the end of October can turn cold by the last race, so dress for it.
For getting there, the enclosures and food on the day, read our day out at Wetherby guide. The Wetherby festival guide covers the course's other big meetings across the season, and the Wetherby betting guide has the course trends.
Results go on this page within 24 hours of the race, and the full card's results are on our racing results page the same evening.
