Wednesday 13 May 2026, 16:05 BST. York Racecourse. Tattersalls Musidora Stakes, Group 3, 1m2½f, 3yo fillies, GBP 130,000. Going: Good. 5 runners (Della Pace withdrawn). Winning time: 2m 11.15s.
Legacy Link (5/4F, John & Thady Gosden / Colin Keane) won the Tattersalls Musidora Stakes, booking her Epsom Oaks ticket and delivering John Gosden's record-equalling 9th Musidora win — drawing him level with Sir Henry Cecil as the race's most successful trainer [Sporting Life]. The Juddmonte-owned daughter of Dubawi sat third early, took the lead in the closing stages, was pressed by Ed Walker's Felicitas (5/2, Kieran Shoemark) through the final furlong, and held on by 3/4 length.
Result top 5:
- 1st Legacy Link (5/4F) -- J & T Gosden / Colin Keane (Juddmonte)
- 2nd Felicitas (5/2) -- E Walker / Kieran Shoemark -- 3/4L
- 3rd K Sarra (20/1) -- R Beckett / Rossa Ryan -- 1 1/2L
- 4th Moments Of Joy (11/4) -- A P O'Brien / Ryan Moore -- 7L
- 5th Sea The Storm (9/1) -- W Haggas / Tom Marquand -- 5L
Race shape: Legacy Link ducked right out of stalls, took keen hold early under Colin Keane, was prominent into the home turn, and led going easily over 2f out. The filly held a clear advantage entering the final furlong before Felicitas mounted her sustained challenge; Legacy Link's pedigree (Dubawi out of a full-sister to Frankel) and her seasonal-debut profile held under pressure.
Della Pace (Boughey / Spencer) was withdrawn -- the connections judged the ground unsuitable in late-stage decisions. The Musidora ran with 5 runners instead of the originally declared 6.
The Coolmore representative Moments Of Joy (11/4) finished a disappointing 4th, beaten 7 lengths in the wash by the time the leaders had finished their duel. Ryan Moore was unable to get a tune out of Aidan O'Brien's filly; the Coolmore filly division has now seen its strongest 3yo Oaks-trial form-line carriers (Amelia Earhart at Cheshire 6 May; Moments Of Joy at Musidora 13 May) underperform expectations.
For the post-race Oaks implications see our Epsom Oaks 2026 preview -- Legacy Link's 7/2 Oaks favouritism is now backed by a Musidora win.

The winning ride -- Legacy Link (5/4F, Colin Keane)
Legacy Link sat third of the five runners in the opening stages under Colin Keane, before getting on top in the closing stages to prevail by three-quarters of a length [Sporting Life report].
Felicitas mounted a sustained challenge inside the final furlong under Kieran Shoemark, pressing the favourite hard through the final 200 yards. Keane kept Legacy Link to her task with a hands-and-heels finish and the Juddmonte-owned filly held on by 3/4 length -- a margin that reflected both the closeness of the duel and Legacy Link's superior class.
Trainer post-race comment [via Sporting Life]:
"Legacy Link did well. She was a little green early on, fresh first time out and broke away from the others on the outside. I think to that extent it was a very good trial, I liked the way she fought back and saw it out strongly."
Forward plan -- Epsom Oaks or Prix de Diane. Per the same Sporting Life report, Colin Keane feels the filly should go to Epsom. The Prix de Diane (Chantilly, 14 June) is the alternative target depending on how Legacy Link comes out of the race.
John Gosden's record-equalling 9th
The win marked John Gosden's 9th Musidora victory -- equalling Sir Henry Cecil's all-time record as the race's most successful trainer [Sporting Life]. It was a third Musidora alongside son Thady in the father-and-son partnership. Gosden's previous Musidora winners include Soul Sister (2023) who went on to win the Epsom Oaks -- the modern recent benchmark for the form-line.
The runner-up -- Felicitas (5/2)
Ed Walker's previously-unbeaten Sandown novice winner ran up to the front rank. Felicitas under Kieran Shoemark was the only filly capable of pressing Legacy Link inside the final furlong and ran a credible 3/4L second. The 5/2 each-way price was a meaningful return for trends-aware punters; Walker's pre-race optimism on the route was vindicated by the race-day performance.
The third -- K Sarra (20/1)
Ralph Beckett's 20/1 outsider K Sarra ran a huge race. Under Rossa Ryan, the filly closed strongly to take third by 1 1/2L from Moments Of Joy -- the Coolmore-fancied filly. The Beckett yard's late-spring filly division is now well-flagged for the Oaks-trial route; K Sarra is one to follow.
The Coolmore disappointment -- Moments Of Joy (11/4)
Aidan O'Brien's Moments Of Joy was beaten 7 lengths into 4th -- a disappointing performance for a filly carrying Coolmore's Musidora hopes. Ryan Moore was unable to coax the late surge that the price demanded; the post-race read is that Moments Of Joy lacks the closing kick over this trip and may be better suited to a return to the mile or a longer staying trip.
Sea The Storm (5th)
William Haggas's filly finished 5th, beaten 5L into 5th overall under Tom Marquand. The race-day form-line was modest; the Haggas yard's plans for Sea The Storm may shift toward the Newbury Listed 1m2f (Sat 16 May) as an alternative trial.
Market commentary
The Musidora's market-faithful pattern held -- the favourite Legacy Link won, the second-favourite Felicitas placed at 5/2 each-way. Both top-2 in the betting filled the top 2 places; the 20/1 third K Sarra was the each-way value at the bottom of the place market. The Coolmore runner Moments Of Joy at 11/4 was the each-way trap -- the 11/4 price expressed expectation that the race-day form-line couldn't deliver.
What it means for the Epsom Oaks 2026
The Musidora Stakes is the most reliable Oaks-trial signal in the British flat calendar -- and Wednesday's 2026 result has now reshaped the Oaks ante-post market in a meaningful way.
Legacy Link -- Oaks favourite confirmed
Legacy Link's 7/2 Oaks ante-post price (across Coral, Bet365, William Hill, Star Sports) is now backed by a Musidora win. Expect a market shift to 5/2 or shorter as the Oaks-trial form-line ratifies the ante-post expectation. The filly's pedigree (Dubawi out of a full-sister to Frankel) and her seasonal-debut form line give the Gosden yard exactly the credentials they look for in their Oaks runners. Soul Sister 2023 is the modern Gosden Musidora → Oaks template -- and per the Sporting Life report Colin Keane feels Legacy Link should head to Epsom, with the Prix de Diane (Chantilly, 14 June) as the alternative target.
Felicitas -- Oaks each-way value at 12/1+
Ed Walker's filly will see her Oaks price tighten from 16/1-25/1 to 10/1-12/1 on the back of this run. The 5/2 each-way Musidora performance is credible Oaks-trial form; at 12/1 with 1/4 odds at 3 places, Felicitas is a respectable each-way Oaks bet for trends-aware punters who back the Walker yard at York.
K Sarra -- the Beckett dark horse
Ralph Beckett's 20/1 third has revealed himself as a late-spring filly division surprise. K Sarra's closing kick suggests she may stay further than the Musidora trip; a route to the Pretty Polly Stakes (Curragh, 27 June) or the Ribblesdale Stakes (Royal Ascot 19 June) looks more likely than the Oaks itself. Keep her on Oaks-trial-form-line watch lists.
Moments Of Joy -- the Coolmore reset
Aidan O'Brien's filly was beaten 7L into 4th -- a poor performance that closes a chapter on the Coolmore Musidora intent in 2026. With Amelia Earhart having failed at the Cheshire Oaks (Wed 6 May) and Moments Of Joy underperforming at York, Coolmore's Oaks ante-post position is weakened. The yard's Oaks card now relies on horses that have yet to run in 2026 at the right trip.
The wider Oaks ante-post picture
| Filly | Trainer | Pre-Musidora Oaks price | Post-Musidora expected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legacy Link | Gosden | 7/2 | 5/2-9/4 |
| Felicitas | Walker | 16/1-25/1 | 10/1-12/1 |
| Amelia Earhart | O'Brien | 4/1 | 5/1-6/1 (drifting) |
| K Sarra | Beckett | 33/1 | 20/1-25/1 |
| Moments Of Joy | O'Brien | 8/1 | drifting to 14/1 |
The market shape post-Musidora is Legacy-Link-versus-the-field. Trends-aware bettors should target either Legacy Link as the win pick at 9/4-5/2 or Felicitas as the each-way value at 10/1-12/1.

Gosden's 9th and the Musidora's place in flat racing
John Gosden's 9th Musidora win equals Sir Henry Cecil's all-time training record for the race [Sporting Life]. It was a third Musidora alongside son Thady in the father-and-son partnership. The list of Gosden Musidora-to-Oaks form lines includes the 2023 Soul Sister double; Legacy Link in 2026 is on the same form-line trajectory. Whether she completes the double at Epsom is now the live editorial through to the first Saturday in June.
